Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for
Everyone and Nobody (Oxford
Worlds Classics) by Friedrich
Nietzsche
Wonderful Book
hus Spake Zarathustra is a masterpiece of literature as well as philosophy.
It was Nietzsches own favorite and has proved to be his most popular. In
this book he addresses the problem of how to live a fulfilling life in a world
without meaning, in the aftermath of the death of God. His solution lies in
the idea of eternal recurrence, which he calls the highest formula of
affirmation that can ever be attained. A successful engagement with this
profoundly Dionysian idea enables us to choose clearly among the myriad
possibilities that existence offers, and thereby to affirm every moment of
our lives with others on this sacred earth.
Grahm Parkess new translation is more accurate than previous versions,
and is the first to retain the musicality of the original, by paying attention to
the rhythms and cadences of the German. His introduction examines the
works three most important philosophical ideas and for the first time
annotates the abundance of allusions to the Bible and other classic texts
with which Nietzsches masterpiece is in conversation.
Personal Review: Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for Everyone
and Nobody (Oxford Worlds Classics) by Friedrich Nietzsche
Wonderful book, although Nietzche was as naive as hell. He understood
everything about how to write a book but didn't understand his subject:
Humans. Humans tend naturally to evil (Sorry :-( ) He intended for man to
better himself but how? Have you ever read "Notes from Underground"
written by Dostoyevski? That's the real human being driven by his own
base instincts!
For those of you who equal this book to Hitler and his nazis you are wrong!
Nietzche intended a superhuman endowed with celestial qualities not a
bunch of thugs and murderes as Hitler and his "friends" were. He, I'm
certain, would be horrorized by what the nazis did and interpret and to
what use they put his famous work. In my humble opinion, Nietzche didnñt
live long enough to understand how vile humans can be.
