The Nonverbal Advantage: Secrets and Science of Body Language at Work (Bk Business) by Carol Kinsey Goman Ph.D. - Presentation Transcript

    1. The Nonverbal Advantage: Secrets and Science of Body Language at Work (Bk Business) by Carol Kinsey Goman Ph.D. I See What You're Saying. The workplace is a blink world. Studies show we form opinions of one another within 7 seconds of meeting, and that 93% of the message people receive from us has nothing to do with what we actually say. Good nonverbal communication skills are therefore a huge professional advantage. Author Carol Kinsey Goman combines the latest research and her 25 years of practical experience as a consultant, coach and therapist to offer a fun and practical guide to understanding what we and the people we work with are saying without speaking. Goman writes in an informal, conversational tone, illustrating her points with cartoons, photos and anecdotes, and she includes dozens of simple and enlightening exercises readers can practice to gain control over the message their body is sending. The Nonverbal Advantage will help readers communicate far more effectively, understand those around them more completely, and project a more accurate picture of who they really are to their colleagues, clients and partners.
    2. Personal Review: The Nonverbal Advantage: Secrets and Science of Body Language at Work (Bk Business) by Carol Kinsey Goman Ph.D. I had the benefit of reading THE NONVERBAL ADVANTAGE, by Carol Kinsey Goman, while traveling on business. I say it was a benefit because I was able to apply what I read while observing the people in the airport. It was a real eye opener and really even gave me somewhat of a sense of empowerment knowing that I knew what people were really saying with their bodies. Several years ago, I went through a training course on Integrity Interviewing, so I knew a lot of this stuff already, but I was very surprised at how much I DIDN'T know. I'm not just talking about reading other people, but my own actions as well. There is a great deal of information here on how our body language will invite others to be more open with you. The subtitle here is SECRETS AND SCIENCE OF BODY LANGUAGE AT WORK, and this is critical knowledge for anyone in business, but it goes much further than that. This is somewhat of a training manual on social skills, both business and personal. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't benefit greatly from reading this book.
