Excellent
The books of Bertrand Russell are a modern substitute for the Bible.—

The Conquest of Happiness, a primer of self-regeneration, is a most
excellent book. This manual of systemized common sense, sane and
forthright, should be read by every parent, teacher, minister and
Congressman in the land.—Atlantic Monthly
Personal Review: The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand
Russell
The Conquest of Happiness is a most excellent book. The complaints I see
by most here are along the lines that there's nothing new in this book. This
is no real surprise, after all, we each know about most of the things that
makes us happy. All what this book promises (and delivers) is some
musings about unhappiness, it's causes and their solutions, which is really
not that bad considering how miserable many people are.
This book is full of thought provoking material that is sure to challenge your
behavior and self-image. I honestly believe this book changed my life, and
made me a better person. I no longer view living a simple life as a sign of
defeat, I have understood that most of my "struggle for life" was merely a
"struggle for success" and I have become a friendlier and open person.
It could be said that most men does not want success, only to be more
successful than other men. With sharp logic and a witty language Russell
will challenge your world. Listed below is a few of my favorite quotes from
the book.
----
Quote: "All serious success in work depends upon genuine interest in the
material with which the work is concerned."
Quote: "There can be no value in the whole unless there is value in the
parts"
Quote: "It is amazing how much both happiness and efficiency can be
increased
by the cultivation of an orderly mind, which thinks about a matter
adequately at the right time rather than inadequately at all times."
Quote: "A man who is happy in his marriage and his children is not likely to
feel much envy of other men because of their greater wealth or
success. ... The essentials of human happiness are simple, so simple
that sophisticated people cannot bring themselves to admit what it is
they really lack."
Quote: "If I where a medical man, I should prescribe a holiday to any
patient
who considered his work important."
----
In short an excellent, worthwhile book that will enlighten the path to your
happiness.
