Soviet Air Power in World War 2 by Yefim Gordon - Presentation Transcript

    1. Soviet Air Power in World War 2 by Yefim Gordon Excellent Reference From the team that published the critically acclaimed and hugely successful Famous Russian Aircraft series comes a book that is the definitive guide to all of the aircraft flown by the Soviet Air Force in World War II. While most other books on the Soviet Air Force in World War II dwell largely on individual aircraft types, this book also takes a closer look at the Soviet Air Forces structure and aircraft fleet. It includes all of the unit insignia of Soviet air armies, divisions and regiments, as well as the varied artwork and camouflage schemes used on individual aircraft. This book features brief descriptions (including performance data) and many previously unpublished photos and color side views of all the aircraft types that operated in the immediate pre-war years and in World War II, including many British aircraft flown by the Soviet Air Force. The most important combat operations conducted by the Air Force and the Soviet Naval Aviation are described and illustrated by tactical maps. The book
    2. also tells about the Soviet Air Force commanders and famous Soviet aces of the period; the aces aircraft and their personal insignia are illustrated. This is a unique book that will be of interest not only to aviation and military history fans but also to modelers. Personal Review: Soviet Air Power in World War 2 by Yefim Gordon A Masterpice from A meticulouus Russian scholar,Acadenic Reasearcher ! A "Living Dictionary" of Soviet Air power in WW11! I am a American Historian. Now, introduce Young Ki Moon, a amateur Military Aviation Research- -er, Seoul, Korea, and disclose a Book Review on this book. Korean War started on 25,June,1950. on this day,I seecoul'd spotted a smmall, agile ,blakish, highly maneuvered sweeping up after bombing kimpo and Yei-do air field. on 27,June,1950, a coul'd see the first AIR Battle between F-82G Twin Mutang and YAK-7U, Later, I knew the YAK-7U was Shot Downded. This book is really the Encyclopaedia of " Soviet Air Power during WW11 !. Contents of this Book show,From step of Desin to process of mass production. Showing Soviet's AF.structual organizations,All Military Aircrats involved during WW11. I was especially impressed on their good utilization of all lend-leased military Aircrafts. From US Lend-Leased cases(US was best contributer) In fighter group, Ranking of number was 1)exported version(P-400) P-39 Airacobra including P-63 Kingcobra 2)P-40 Kittyhawk/Warhawk. in Bomber group, 1) A(or B)Boston 2)B-25 Mittchel. I was in big supprise with their craving attached with P-39 ! even Yak pilot wanted P-39. They had good Killng scores with German Fw-190 and Bf-109. also, many of them became Air Aces includig Soviet 2nd ranking ,most famous Ace(59 Air Kills),Col.Pokryshkin love to use during Air Battles. They pointed out the good advantages are,Robert Woods and Harland designed highly unusual aircraft by any standards.they placed engine amidship, behind the cockpit, using extension shaftwhich make aircraft even leaving the nose free for powerful gun armament.
    3. P-400 bad ceiling and climb rate. p-39 was outclassed in horizontaldogfighting with light weighted A6M Zero. range and high-altitude performance were inadequate and 37mm Oldsmobil cannon easilyjammed. Soviet added some modification, P-39 became superior to YAK-1 and LAGG-3 ABOVE 3000M as far as horizontal maneuver. reliable 20mm Hispano MK404 cannon from propeller hub and 2 synchronized 12.7mm machie guns in the nose pluss 4x 7.62mm machine guns in the wings.Soviet leadder became understand P-39 are best fighters among US supplied fighter to USSR successfly opposing Bf-109E and Bf-109F.after Stalin's special request, P-39 brcame Total 2,627 !.after they changed to 37mm cannon again. US begin to send P-39L-1, more stronger engine( V01710-63),armour protection, armed with 1X37mm Oldsmobil M-4 CANNON,,2x12.7MM Brdwning machine guns,4X7.62mm Browing machie guns became aimost equal performance with Bf-109G-2 and Fw-190A-4. P-39Q-10, last imprved version changed 4X7.62mm-- >4X12.7MM stronger machie guns, Especially,Aircobras of Aleksandr 1.Pokryskin's unit(the 16th GvIAP) became one of most famous Fighting Group of USSR. in my opinon, From US disappinted disabandoed fighter to USSR philosophy orient good fighter Liquid cooing stream lined, heavy armamented, faster, motr maneuberable wonderful Fighter! p For More 5 Star Customer Reviews and Lowest Price: Soviet Air Power in World War 2 by Yefim Gordon 5 Star Customer Reviews and Lowest Price!
