Excellent Intro To Pl/Sql - And Programming...
This one-of-a-kind applications development guide teaches Oracle
developers the ins and outs of using PL/SQL in client/server applications.
PL/SQL is the key to building successful client/server applications for
Oracle 7. It combines the data processing power of procedural language
with the data manipulating power of a query language. The book explains
how to develop, test, debug, and tune Oracle applications using such
popular tools as Visual Basic, SQL, and Oracle Developer/2000. It also
provides expert advice on transaction design, distributed processing,
application security, and lots more, with helpful illustrations throughout.
Personal Review: Oracle Pl/SQL Programming (Oracle Series)
by Tim Smith
I don't know how to objectively review a book for which I have such a
strong emotional attachment, so I won't even try. This book launched my
career as a programmer, and while there was a lot of work after it to get
where I am today, I credit it as what got me off the ground. It is definitely
not an advanced concepts book - but it was 100% perfect as a launching
pad, and contains a lot of basic programming concepts that are essential
outside PL/SQL.
The prose in the book is clear, simple and importantly, readable. This
remains the most accessible technical book I've ever read, and I've read a
lot.
I keep this book around for sentimental reasons, primarily, as it really is
outdated. But it's a hopeful reminder that not all tech books are dry and
uninformative. Some of them really do contain stuff that can take you
special places, and open doors. Long live SCOTT/TIGER!
