Oracle PL/SQL Programming: A Developers Workbook (Development Workbook) by Andrew Odewahn - Presentation Transcript

    1. Oracle PL/SQL Programming: A Developers Workbook (Development Workbook) by Andrew Odewahn Indispensible For Any Pl/Sql Programmer The Oracle PL/SQL Developers Workbook is a companion to Steven Feuersteins bestselling Oracle PL/SQL Programming and his other PL/SQL books from OReilly. It contains a carefully constructed set of problems and solutions that will test your language skills and help you become a better developer--both with PL/SQL and with other languages. Exercises are provided at three levels: beginner, intermediate, and expert. The workbook exercises cover all the major features of PL/SQL, including those new to Oracle8i (e.g., Java and web features, autonomous transactions, and bulk binds). The workbook covers: Basic language elements--variables, naming, loops, conditional and sequential control, exception handling, and records.Data structures--index-by tables, nested tables, variables arrays (VARRAYs), and object technology.Database interaction--cursors, DML and transaction management, cursor variables,
    2. and native dynamic SQLProgram construction--procedures, functions, blocks, packages, database triggers, and calling PL/SQL functions in SQL.Built-in functionality--the character, date, conversion, numeric, and miscellaneous functions, and the DBMS_SQL, DBMS_PIPE, DBMS_OUTPUT, UTL_FILE, and DBMS_JOB built-in packages.Miscellaneous topics--using Java with PL/SQL, external programs, PL/SQL web development, tuning PL/SQL, and PL/SQL for DBAs. Personal Review: Oracle PL/SQL Programming: A Developers Workbook (Development Workbook) by Andrew Odewahn If there is any book which will "fine-tune" one's knowledge of PL/SQL, this is it. It is written in Feuerstein's inimitable style which will keep you engaged with the book much longer than any other peer book of it's kind. There is so much to learn from this book really - and it applies to beginners as experts alike. This book explores the tiniest nuts and bolts of PL/SQL in an exercise-like format which gives the reader a chance to ponder on the problem before he/she looks up the answers. And I must add, you are in store for a lot of surprises when you look up the answers in the second half of the book !
