Body: Chi Gung for Lifelong Health
(Tao of Energy Enhancement) by
Bruce Frantzis
Very Instructive
Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body introduces the key concepts of
chi gung in a manner both accessible and understandable to Westerners.
With fascinating insights gained from years of training in Asia as a warrior,
healer, and priest, Bruce Frantzis demystifies the concept of chi, the
body’s vital energy life force, and shows why this 3000-year-old system of
self-healing works. The book provides a set of enjoyable, low impact
exercises that readers can learn on their own, including standing chi gung,
a core exercise that effectively boosts performance for martial artists,
athletes, business people, and others. Body alignments and Taoist
breathing, fundamentals that are the foundation of all Taoist energy
practices, are also taught, with special alignments that benefit those who
must sit for long periods of time. The book also reveals how chi gung can
enhance other forms of exercise, from yoga and Pilates to golf and
basketball.
Personal Review: Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body: Chi
Gung for Lifelong Health (Tao of Energy Enhancement) by Bruce
Frantzis
This beautiful book is pure gold! Using very clear language with precise
details, Bruce Frantzis takes you from an overview of the field of Chinese
energy arts to a step by step series of exercises designed to help you feel
your energy at progressively more subtle levels and improve the flow of
energy through your body.
One of my favorite chapters is about how to drop your energy, to lower the
center of
your energy focus. For me this meant especially sinking energy from my
head neck and shoulders so it falls into my belly and down into my feet and
through my feet into the earth. This practice has improved my ability to
focus in general, to be calm, and also - along with the work on body
alignments - relieved pain in my knees and feet.
I have now worked with Bruce Frantzis and students of his, and I find this
book is a very faithful representation and recording of how a personal
teacher instructs, including warnings about working too fast or pushing too
far, and how to tell when you are doing the practice correctly. This work is
in a way quite simple, but profound. And it works! I use the book as a
reference all the time now that I study Chi Gung regularly.
