Personal Review: Living Bible red-letter with green hardcover
(Living Bible, The)
When I first became a Christian in 1984 I avoided The Living Bible (TLB)
because I was told it was not accurate. About 8 years later I started
reading it closely and found that it spoke to my heart language in a way
that no other translation does. Eventually I became an Elder in our church
and chose chapters from TLB to read to the congregation. I had to chose
carefully lead by the Spirit because some verses are so different from
other translations that it almost offends some people.
On many occasions I have heard renowned Bible scholars teaching on a
passage in the Bible and describe the real intent of ancient Greek or
Hebrew texts. Sometimes most literal English translations only hint at the
heart of the ancient language. Then I would look up in the TLB and WOW
Ken Taylor says it just as the teacher explains! I wish I had kept a
notebook of examples, unfortunately I do not remember :o(
In many cases TLB can be used like a study help. It will enlighten the
heart of a verse you are studying. Yes, do not rely on it as you primary
study Bible, but if I had just one, TLB would be my choice.
The New Living Translation is good, but in most cases does not have the
heart and freedom of the original.
I hope Tyndale keeps The Living Bible in print for a long time! Thank you
Amazon for carrying it.
Blessings
