Learn Access 2003 VBA With The Smart Method by Mike Smart - Presentation Transcript

    1. Learn Access 2003 VBA With The Smart Method by Mike Smart Excellent Book! This unique book provides the easiest possible route to mastering professional VBA programming techniques for Microsoft Access. Both absolute beginners and IT professionals will love this book as it is crammed with great tips and insights into building quality data centric application . No previous exposure to VBA is assumed but, to get the most out of the book, you should already be quite competent with interactive Access. The format of the book is quite special, every lesson has been designed to fit onto two facing A4 pages so that you learn Access VBA in many small, easily digested, focused lessons. The book was originally only available for students taking The Smart Methods popular Access courses. Now it is available to all, both as a self-study guide and also for teachers wishing to use our unique teaching method to run their own Access VBA courses. The emphasis throughout the book is on solid, professional coding practices and techniques. Students are gently introduced to a set of design rules which summarise best-practice for developing Access
    2. applications. Needless technical jargon is avoided and everything you need is explained in a simple and no-nonsense way. Instead of simple code snippets the book takes on the task of developing a high-quality Access application entirely from scratch. By the end of the course the student has a working and complete application that can be used as the basis for real-world commercial projects. Personal Review: Learn Access 2003 VBA With The Smart Method by Mike Smart I am a finance professional, and consider myself an intermediate Access user. I plowed through the three common beginner / intermediate / advanced Access courses which teach you the ins and outs of Access (table structure, queries, forms, and reports, whether created fresh or via wizard). I have even automated many things using macros. In essence, I understood how Access worked. I had already created two databases still being used in large companies. In my current job, I need to create a smooth user interface - forms and reports. This is an area not covered in the normal first three Access courses. I quickly realized that smooth interfaces (custom menus, custom search capabilities, custom pop-up boxes, other) are just not possible without VBA. I researched many options before settling on this book. The Smart Method provided me the right tools at the right time. In a nutshell, this book was the perfect "next step" for me. In a clear step by step fashion, I learned clean database structure rules, coding techniques (custom pop-up boxes, custom validation, message boxes, buttons, searching, reporting, dialog driven reporting, error handling), how to interface with Word, customize switchboards, and create a user vs. development database. In my opinion, Mike Smart wrote this book in an easy to follow and very accessible manner. If you reached the limits of basic Access teachings, The Smart Method is a perfect next step.
