Highly Effective Networking: Meet the Right People and Get a Great Job by Orville Pierson - Presentation Transcript

    1. Highly Effective Networking: Meet the Right People and Get a Great Job by Orville Pierson Networking Made Tolerable Virtually all job hunting experts agree that networking is the best way to find a great job. But most people dont have connections to the decision makers who do the hiring. And networking books, which are mostly written by and for salespeople, suggest aggressive tactics, often confusing these with real networking. They focus on building a powerful network over the course of a lifetime. But when you need a new job, you dont have time to build a huge, powerful network. Youve got to use the network you already have.
    2. Orville Pierson, a top expert in job hunting, tells you how to succeed by effectively using your current circle of contacts. He cuts through the myths and misunderstandings to show you how millions of job hunters have networked their way to great new jobs. Highly Effective Networking empowers you to: * Use a small network to reach dozens of insiders and decision makers. * Get the right message to the right people, even if you have never met them. * Create a project plan to organize your networking efforts. * Speak effectively and comfortably with your networking contacts. * Talk to decision makers before the job opening is announced. Networking in job hunting is different than other networking. You dont have to hobnob with the rich and famous. Theres no need for aggressive sales tactics. You just need to understand how real networking fits into your job search, and then be systematic about doing it. Personal Review: Highly Effective Networking: Meet the Right People and Get a Great Job by Orville Pierson Before I read this book, I thought I had a small network. After I was done, I realized that I knew a lot of people, and I mean a lot. Orville teaches you how to "map out your network" and once you have that list, you are set to go for your job search or for whatever you need. In terms of a job search, the more people that you know who are "decision makers" the faster it will be for you to get that new job. For me, I'm an entrepreneur and I have been recommending the book to all of my entrepreneur friends as a great way to expand your network and increase sales. Orville has a sense of humor so this book is not dry, mostly it is just one heck of a book. It also taught me how to connect with people that I hadn't talked to in years (there are scripts in the book) and how to contact people that I have some affiliation with but people that I had never actually met. Yes, you can call them too! His other book, The Highly Effective Job Search, is also excellent. See my review on that page. Best job search book available, all the other reviewer gave him a 5 stars too!!!
