Swami Nikhilananda to less than one-third of the its size by eliminating
repetitions and unfamiliar references. This has been done without
affecting the continuity or the completeness of the teaching. This 640
page edition retains the biographical introduction from the unabridged
edition, as well as, a glossary, and index.

When I first ordered this book, I had a dream. I was in this personal library
of thousands of books. Most of the books were single books written by a
host of authors. Mixed in among them were multiple books written by many
authors. The strange and wonderful thing was that every book in the library
was about love. The moment I received The Gospels I commenced to
read it. After reading it for a day, I understood why I had the dream. This
book is a dedication to love and to the glorious man who lived his life with
the cloak of love around his shoulders. The stories he relates throughout
the book guide each person through personal problems and gives him or
her the opportunity to include and envelope love each and every day. We
are fortunate that 'M', the author, meticulously captured the essence of
Ramakrishna. 'M's recollection of each day's events and conversations
was only surpassed by Ramakrishna's recollection of what happened and
what was said. How sad that other spiritual giants did not have someone
as astute as 'M' to record what transpired through their days for a given
amount time. By far this is the most love filled book I've ever read.
