"Damsel Under Stress" is the third installment in the wonderfully original "Katie Chandler" series. ("Enchanted, Inc." and "Once Upon Stilettos" are the first and second books, respectively.)
The story here picks up just a day or two after the events in the last chapter of "Once Upon Stilettos". I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'm not going to give a detailed review of the plot, but I'm confident that if you've read and enjoyed the other books, you'll enjoy this one as well. The story really moves forward, both in Katie's professional and personal life. There's some real insight and character development, particularly with Owen, Katie, and Rod, but all the other characters have development as well.
As I did with my reviews of the other books, I'm going to give a brief "content" summary. (Everyone has different standards, and it can be difficult to know if a book is appropriate for a certain person or age group, so this is why I do this.) Content is much the same as the previous two books, with occasional mild profanity (nothing worse than b--ch, d-mn, etc), and a few mild innuendos. Katie has one or two thoughts that are just a bit off-color (nothing graphic). One of Katie's roommates briefly talks about dumping her "old-fashioned" boyfriend because he hasn't slept with her. No bedroom scenes, but that doesn't mean there's not romance! :)
I just can't help but recommend this series to anyone who asks me for book recommendations. It is so original and captivating, and the characters seem so real, it's like they are my friends! Katie is great, and Owen, he is... well, wow. I've never read another book or series with a character quite like Owen, he is just amazing. Thank you to Shanna Swendson for dreaming up such a great series with such amazing characters!
And now for one last comment: To anyone looking at buying this book, I want to make one recommendation: Make sure to also purchase the fourth book, "Don't Hex with Texas". You'll be wanting/needing to read it asap after you finish Damsel Under Stress, trust me! :)
