For years I've wrestled with how to integrate personal development and spirituality. Personal development changes things in yourself and your world, and spirituality asks you to accept everything as it is. I've found myself deeply called to both, but how do you integrate such seemingly irreconcilable opposites?
Core Transformation elegantly creates changes by going to the "core state" within anything we don't like about ourselves and therefore want to change. What we discover is that these parts of our being that we usually push away, repress, deny, or project contain within them a deeply positive purpose for us: usually something along the lines of Oneness, OKness, Being, Peace, etc. And these are not ideas about oneness, OKness, or peace, they are direct experiences. And the process is not intense and painful, nor does it require extreme catharsis like some outdated personal change methods.
At the time of writing this review, I've done the process 60 or 70 times with myself, and a handful of times with coaching clients. I've found that I can go from frustrated, irritated, sad, angry, or any other unpleasant state to Oneness, Peace, Bliss, etc. often in 5-15 minutes with this process, very reliably, without repressing or denying anything. My clients make a significant shift in how they naturally feel and behave within 90 minutes, much of that time spent in very pleasant states.
Many other methods of personal change involve subtle repression, denial, or violence, like affirming something you don't currently believe, "breaking through" fears, "pushing yourself," etc. In addition, nearly all personal development techniques assume our goals and then begin forming plans. Yet many of our goals are coming from one part that is in conflict with another part within. Core Transformation, like Internal Family Systems therapy and Voice Dialogue, not only brings resolution to personal challenges, but also creates more wholeness within, bringing us closer to true inner peace.
I cannot speak highly enough of this powerful process. The book is a very practical handbook for learning this method precisely. Do use the exact scripts, for the wording is very precisely chosen. There is also a DVD set from Real People Press which is very useful for learning the method more precisely, as well as live seminars for more experiential learning and powerful group transformation.
