Come Look with Me: Exploring Modern Art (Come Look with Me) by Jessica Noelani Wright - Presentation Transcript

    1. Come Look with Me: Exploring Modern Art (Come Look with Me) by Jessica Noelani Wright The Way To Truly Teach Art. Appreciation To Ages 3-103. COME LOOK WITH ME: Exploring Modern Art, the sixth volume in the COME LOOK WITH ME series of interactive art books from Lickle Publishing, introduces children to twelve magnificent works of art. More importantly, it offers both children and adults a whole new way of encountering any work of art, one that engages the imagination as much as the eye. Well suited for both individual and classroom use, Exploring Modern Art pairs quality art reproductions with thought-provoking questions, encouraging children to learn through visual exploration and interaction. Thoughtful text introduces the world and work of the artist, making the most of a child’s natural curiosity. Children enter the feelings and flat shapes of Henri Matisse’s The Red Room (Harmony in Red); they compare Pablo Picasso’s Horse Head Mask with a firespitter mask from the Ivory Coast; they imagine the expression on the face of the young girl
    2. in Diego Rivera’s The Flower Vendor (Girl With Lilies). Art historians and educators from Bank Street College of Education in New York City proudly present the subsequent books in this series. For more than eighty years, Bank Street has been a leader in child-centered education. Bank Street’s approach views all children as active learners, experimenters, explorers and artists. Engaging and interactive for both children and adults, Bank Street’s additions to Lickle Publishing’s COME LOOK WITH ME series celebrate what Mrs. Blizzard called the pleasure of shared experience. Personal Review: Come Look with Me: Exploring Modern Art (Come Look with Me) by Jessica Noelani Wright We love this series. It teaches children and adults alike how to "see" art the fantastic way I learned in History of Art in college. The book walks one through 13 pieces of art in a way that teaches many aspects of art in an easy and enjoyable way; one automatically appreciates it. It's exceptionally difficult to find a book that teaches people about modern art, and this book does the job beautifully. It is good for children of all ages and adults who haven't studied art thoroughly. There are questions to ask before teaching about the pictures. For example, the cover photo's questions are, "Describe the animal you see in this painting. Describe the background scene. Does this scene look like one you might see in real life? In what ways has the artist used his imagination in painting this scene? Does this look like a calm, quiet scene or an active, loud one? What makes you think so? These questions seem young as I type them, but they do get everyone thinking. There is background information on the history, artist and their motivations and symbolism in pictures. Works studied are: Henri Matisse's The Red Toom (Harmony In Red) Pablo Picasso's Horse Head Mask and Buffalo Mask Franz Marc's The Yellow Cow John Sloan's Backyards, Greenwich Village Joseph Stella's The Brooklyn Bridge: Variation on an Old Theme Grant Wood's Stone City, Iowa William H Johnson's Jitterbugs I Diego Rivera's The Flower Vendor (Girl with Lilies) Georgia O'Keeffe's Autumn Leaves NO. 2 Louis Comfort Tiffany's Landscape Andy Warhol's Muhammad Ali Helen Frankenthaler's Blue Territory For More 5 Star Customer Reviews and Lowest Price: Come Look with Me: Exploring Modern Art (Come Look with Me) by Jessica Noelani Wright 5 Star Customer Reviews and Lowest Price!
