Bird Songs: 250 North American Birds in Song by Les Beletsky - Presentation Transcript

    1. Bird Songs: 250 North American Birds in Song by Les Beletsky Beautiful Bird Book! Wonderful Gift Idea! Drawing from the collection of the world-renowned Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Bird Songs presents the most notable North American birds—including the rediscovered Ivory-billed Woodpecker—in a stunning new format. Renowned bird biologist Les Beletsky provides a succinct description of each of the 250 birds profiled, with an emphasis on their distinctive songs. Lavish full-color illustrations accompany each account, while a sleek, built-in digital audio player holds 250 corresponding songs and calls. In his foreword, North American bird expert and distinguished natural historian Jon L. Dunn shares insights gained from a lifetime of passionate study. Complete with the most up-to-date and scientifically accurate information, Bird Songs is the first book to capture the enchantment of these beautiful birds in words, pictures, and song. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, located in Ithaca, New York, is a nonprofit institution focused on birds and whose mission is to interpret and conserve the earths biological diversity through research. Personal Review: Bird Songs: 250 North American Birds in Song by Les Beletsky I've had this book for over a year. It is one of my many bird reference books and is probably my favorite. We live in the a very rural area and have a vacation place in an even MORE rural area. Both are on water so we get many species of birds living with us and just passing through. Many times you can only hear the bird and never get a glimpse of it. This book has been terrific in helping me figure out who is living with us and who is migrating through. Once I've made and i.d. I can go to my other books and learn about my guests. A different kind of endorsement: There is a recording of an owl in the book that must be incredibly realistic. My labrador throws back his head and howls the most primal, MOURNFUL cry you've ever heard when it is played. It is a beautiful, haunting sound that almost sounds like he is longing for something he can't name. He has never before or since howled in any fashion, much less this soulful call of the wild.
