What You Need to Know About Self
Publishing

Double Check
• You may think you have
everything you need to
submit your book to
AuthorHouse, but you
need to be sure.
• If you forgot any material,
production of your self
published book could be
delayed.

Submission Information Form
This form is very important. In it, you will tell us:
• The book’s title and subtitle
• Your pen name
• The final book size
• “About the Author” text
• “About the Book” text
• A selection of your manuscript for the book preview
• Your thoughts and ideas about the cover design and the book layout

Manuscript
• This should be sent in a single merged file.
• We do not need to receive any partial manuscripts or early drafts.
• If you are paying us to have your files merged, please include a
document explaining the order of the files or label the files in the
correct order

Images for Your Interior
(If Applicable)
• If your manuscript includes images, we need each image sent as a
separate electronic image file.
– We prefer a TIF or JPEG file the correct size and resolution requirements.
• For black and white books, you can submit 10 images.
• For color books, you can submit 50 images.
• If you are sending more images than your publishing package
includes, insertion fees will apply for each additional image.

Image Captions (if applicable)
• If your image has captions, place the captions in your manuscript
along with the image placement instructions.
• You can also send them in a separate document labeled ‘Image
Captions’

Image(s) for Your Cover (Optional)
• You are welcome to send one or two images for your cover. If you
wish to do so, please put ‘Cover’ in the filename.
• Make sure these images reach the size and resolution requirements:
– Resolution: 300 PPI (Pixels Per Inch)
– Size: The same size as it should appear in print.
• If you want your image to Full Bleed, or extend to the edge of the page, add ¼
inch of Bleed Space on the side of the image that will touch the edge
• If you wish to use images that are not your own, feel free to browse
www.jiunlimited.com. You can select one or two of these stock
images at no additional charge. Be sure to enter the ID numbers of the
images on the Submission Information Form.

Author Photo (Optional)
• You may send a photo of yourself to accompany your ‘About the
Author’ bio.
• If the bio and image are going inside the book, this image will count
toward your image limit.
• If you would like your photo on the back cover, purchase
Personalized Back Cover.

Dust Jacket Flap Text
(Optional; if applicable)
• If you have purchased Hard Cover Publishing along with Personalized
Back Cover, you have the option of submitting text or images for your
dust jacket flaps.
• Each flap can hold up to 150 words.

Submission List
• It is a good idea to send us a document titled ‘My Submission List’
along with your submissions. This list will include everything we
should be expecting from you.
• This list should include your full name and the title of the book.
• The Submission List will serve as a checklist for us when we have
received your materials.

Ready for Production
• Submitting these materials will ensure your book moves into
production smoothly.
• If you’re publishing a color or poetry book, or if your book contains
images or special formatting concerns such as footnotes, tables,
columns of text, or an index, we recommend watching our subject-
specific slideshows on these topics before submitting your materials.
