  • 2. What is an Earthquake? Also known as quake, tremor or temblor It is a sudden release of energy in the Earths crust that creates seismic waves.
  • 3. Seismic Activity Also known as seismicity or seismism. It is the frequency, type and size of an earthquake experienced over a period of time.
  • 4. Seismometers Instrument used to measure an earthquake.
  • 5. Fault is a planar fracture or discontinuity in a volume of rock, across which there has been significant displacement along the fractures
  • 6. Epicenter is the point on the Earths surface that is directly above the hypocenter or focus, the point where an earthquake originates
