4. New Zealand Police Awarded for Smart
Client-Based Real Time Mapping Solution
New Zealand Police were honoured for their real
time mapping solutions based on Geomedia
Smart Client. They won the 2014 Asia Pacific
Spatial Excellence Award (APSEA), Spatial
Enablement category.
Smart Client is used for geospatial intelligence by
integrating data from New Zealand Police’s
communications centres into real-time
interactive maps, displaying information required
by officers on and off field.

5. Help map damage in Vanuatu with Tomnod
DigitalGlobe's Tomnod program is now asking its crowdsourcing volunteers to
map the damage from cyclone Pam. Users can switch between pre-event and
post-event imagery to help determine whether damage has occurred.
DigitalGlobe has made available the satellite imagery from the region.

6. Animated map of Super Cyclone Pam
Cameron Beccario (Software Engineer at Indeed Tokyo) created a visualization
of global weather conditions (wind, waves). Wind and ocean waves updated
every three hours by supercomputers. Weather and ocean data are
generated from numerical models.

8. The Oldest Surviving Aerial Photograph…
…was taken in Boston, United States.
The father of aerial photography was French
balloonist Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, who
photographed Paris from a hot air balloon way back
in 1858. Unfortunately, none of his work remains
today.
Titled “Boston, as the Eagle and the Wild Goose
See It” the photo was taken by photographer
James Wallace Black in October of 1860 from an
altitude of about 600 meters.
