(Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Juvenile Arthritis etc.) • The number one cause of disability in the United States, affecting 50 million Americans or 1 out of every 5 adults you know! • Not just an elder issue – 2/3 of people living with arthritis are under 65, including 300,000 children! • Expensive – arthritis costs the US economy $128 billion each year! • Local – arthritis affects 5.5 million people in California!   5. 5. Find Your Inspiration! Everyone is touched by arthritis. One out of every five adults and more than 300,000 children are living with arthritis. Here are a few places to look for inspiration. Your Friends & Family: Are you riding in honor of a friend or family member living with arthritis? Sit down with them and ask them to tell you their story. Find out how arthritis has affected their daily life and ask them what they hope will be accomplished in the future. With their permission, share what you’ve learned. Meet Granny E. Sign in and get to know your HQs: •Visit www.AFCABikeClassic.org or www.ThePeoplesCoastClassic.org •Go to the menu bar on the left side of the screen. Select “Main Login” under “My HQ” •Login using the username and password you created. •If you’ve forgotten your username or password select the “Forgot the username and/or Password” Link. •A reset link will be sent to your email.

  13. 13. Email Campaigns Email campaigns are a great way to connect with your supporters. You can send emails through your HQ by importing your contacts or directly from your personal email account. To import your contacts into your HQ, sign into your HQ, select the “Email” tab, and select “Address Book Import.” The import wizard will walk you through the importation process.
  14. 14. Email Campaigns There are two sample emails preloaded in your HQ. You can also look over the sample letters included in the Fundraising Materials. Personalize these template, the most powerful message will be authentically yours. A powerful email message includes • Arthritis Facts • Why you’re riding • A request for help • A link to your personal page Follow-Up • It can take three or more asks • Phone calls can make a difference • Always say thank you
  15. 15. Marching Gifts: Doubling the Fun! Matching gifts are a great way for your supporters to double their impact! Ask all of your supporters to check with their employers. Matching Gifts In Three Easy Steps 1. Donor asks their HR or Finance contact about Matching Gifts. 2. Donor fills out a matching gift form (online or offline), noting your name and the event name. 3. Company send a matching gift to the Arthritis Foundation that is credited towards your fundraising goal. Bonus Tip: Some companies will even double or triple match!
  16. 16. Social Media Mania! Tap into your social media network! Post to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Linked In and any other network you’re on! Ways To Use Social Media •Change your Facebook profile or timeline cover. •Post photos from training rides, those who inspire you, and those living with arthritis. •Share arthritis facts. •Be silly, be goofy, be genuine! •Let your network know how close you are to your goal. •Say thank you on social media! Your donors will appreciate the public recognition and it will remind others that it’s time to donate. •Always include a link back to your personal page. Involve your friends! Do you know a prolific poster or more than one? Ask them to help spread the word to their network! They can share your posts or create their own. Ask them to include a link to your personal page and watch the funds roll in!

Message One: Training Ride (Post with training ride photo) What an amazing training ride! There were hills, forests, and views of the ocean. Best of all was the camaraderie, what an amazing group! Together we’re bringing the Arthritis Foundation closer to finding a cure. I need your help to get there: Your URL Message Two: Kids Get Arthritis Too! I just returned from the Arthritis Foundation’s Camp Milagros visitor’s day. These kids are so brave. They deal with pain, shots, infusions, stigma/intolerance, and so much more than they should have to. Yet, they are still just kids, having a wonderful time making crafts, swimming, and supporting each other! I’m riding in the CCC/PCC so that these kids can one day experience a world free of arthritis pain. Help me make this a reality: Your URL

Avoid paying recommitment by starting your fundraising now and following the tips in this presentation. Recommitment funds are not lost! •Keep fundraising until November 15, 2013 •You are eligible for a refund up to the amount you recommitted. •You can donate these funds back to the Arthritis Foundation or seed your 2014 bike ride!
