Confidential Main Findings <ul><li>There is a significant difference between colleges/universities and companies when it comes to use of ARRA funds. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Academic institutions received 10 times as many ARRA awards as companies. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The number of awards per institution was 7 times higher for academic centers than for companies. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The number of jobs created per award was much lower – only ONE job was created per award by academic centers, whereas TWO were created by companies. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>ARRA funds were inequitably distributed: Companies got far less ARRA investment than academic centers. </li></ul><ul><li>Job creation was more effective in companies. </li></ul>

Confidential <ul><li>The most recent government report was downloaded from http://www.recovery.gov/FAQ/Pages/DownLoadCenter.aspx . </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The list was sorted by funding agency and those awards funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) were separated out. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Colleges/universities and those institutions with LLC/INC in their names were further separated into separate lists. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Once the two lists had been created, comparisons were performed for each category of institution so as to determine which group made the best use of ARRA funding. </li></ul>Methods
