It leads to three </li></ul><ul><li>grades for science in Physics, Chemistry </li></ul><ul><li>and Biology at GCSE whereas Dual </li></ul><ul><li>Science will lead to two GCSE grades. </li></ul>

New groups are formed from all three bands of Year 9 for the Options. You will meet new pupils and make new friends! </li></ul>

Resistant materials Teacher in charge : Mrs Pohorely <ul><li>An outline of the topics to be covered : </li></ul><ul><li>In Year 10:- </li></ul><ul><li>You will have the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of materials such as woods, metals, Plastics and the new ‘modern’ and ‘smart’ materials. You will design and make clocks, novelty storage units, Christmas decoration and items in quantity. </li></ul><ul><li>Coursework Element: </li></ul><ul><li>You will then know what materials you enjoy working with most so : </li></ul><ul><li>You will design and make a product which particularly interests you using appropriate resistant materials e.g a novelty light, a bedside table or a set of silver jewellery with precious stones in a rosewood jewellery box. </li></ul><ul><li>Tri ps/Visits to support the subject in Year 10 </li></ul><ul><li>We hope to take Year 10 to visit the Design Museum. </li></ul>

Textiles Teacher in Charge ; Mrs Eldridge <ul><li>An outline of the topics to be covered: </li></ul><ul><li>The textile course will include the innovative and experimental use of fabrics, dyes and threads. In Year 10 a sketchbook is produced and students are encouraged to present their designs and fabric samples in a highly creative and imaginative way. (Basic dressmaking skills are incorporated into this project). Mini design projects are also taught including an embellished fabric box, embroidered bag using CAM and painted silk square. For GCSE coursework, students will design and make a product of their choice which would be either something to wear, such as a garment/bag or a soft furnishing such as a cushion/wall hanging. </li></ul><ul><li>How the Course will be Assessed : </li></ul><ul><li>60% coursework </li></ul><ul><li>40% exam </li></ul><ul><li>Coursework element : </li></ul><ul><li>Written - 40% research, designs, samples, evaluations </li></ul><ul><li>Practical - 60% practical item which could be something to wear (garment, hat, bag) </li></ul><ul><li>something for the home cushion, screen, wall hanging). </li></ul><ul><li>Trips/Visits to Support the Subject in Year 10 & 11: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Clothes Show Live – Birmingham – Every 2-3 years.
