What is AAL169?
Article 169 (of the EC treaty) states that the European Commission may support a member state driven initiative on RTD
AAL169 may start as a new multinational and multiannual research and innovation funding programme in 2007 (after having successfully passed the co- decision procedure of the Council and the EU Parliament)
Budget scenario: 25% AAL states, 25% EU, 50% Industry Total volume: 700 Mio € / 7 years

Common elaboration of work programmes and calls

Activities: Up to two calls for proposals for research and innovation projects (cost-shared) per year
Calling for strong user involvement in the projects
Call topics will be pre-defined (top-down), but discussed by researchers and users in pre-call workshops

Ambient Assisted Living aims at prolongating the time people can live in a decent way in their own home environment by
increasing their autonomy and self-confidence,
the discharge of monotonously everyday activities ,
monitoring and caring for the elderly or ill person,
enhancing the security and
saving resources .
