BEI introduced the Global Compact to key businesses in Bangladesh in March 2002 with UNDP.    Most recently, as follow up to participation in the “First Regional Meeting of Global Compact Focal Points in Asia” held in Bangkok on 7-8 June 2006, BEI organized a conference on the UN Global Compact, with participation from Rahimafrooz Batteries Ltd., ACI Ltd. and Square pharmaceuticals Ltd.   A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Centre at BEI was established in June 2005. The Centre is used as a platform to promote the Global Compact principles and CSR in general. The Centre will be formally launched in November 2006 at a national level to a larger audience.  Plans are underway to launch a Global Compact Network in early 2007.
