Profile
I am a highly motivated individual who enjoys new challenges. Due to the nature of working in marketing I
have learnt to be flexible not only in time commitments but also the way I approach my work. I have gained
many skills including communicating effectively, presenting to children and adults, becoming efficient on all
Microsoft applications and I have learnt to manage my time to make sure I get the best out of myself and my
work. I am a quick learner and am always looking for ways of developing new skills to improve my
professional abilities. As Marketing and Communication specialist, and my previous involvement in retail
functioning as regional retail store manager, I have managed a variety of trade disciplines including fashion
design, buying, merchandising, administration, marketing, and customer service together with people
management. My responsibilities included marketing of specific products, product lines and/or a particular
brand. I know and understand that increased profitability results from a combination of increased sales and
price, and/or reduced cost of goods sold, and/or reduced or more efficient marketing investment. All of these
enhancements improve the profitability of the task at hand. I have carried direct line-management
accountability for the profitability of retail stores in the region that I have controlled. My role, in my current
work environment, requires excellent planning, communication and time management with a positive
approach to all tasks undertaken.
I have a comprehensive understanding of market characteristics, industry structures, competitors, and their
business models, fundamental for deploying the value chain management process. Indeed, if the objective
is to develop and sustain competitive advantage, differentiation with focus on the market is called for.
My experience with market segmentation strategies involved dividing the market into groups, where
individuals have similar needs and wants for services and products. It could also be a segmentation of
people on the basis of behavior, culture, and economic status. My approach has been to define and sub-
divide a large homogenous market into clearly identifiable segments that have similar needs, wants, or
demand characteristics.
Brand Management and Reputation Management have been fundamentally important to me. An
overwhelming amount of consumers actively search online each and every day to weigh the pros and cons
of a brand versus its competitors. With globalization and competition increases dramatically across all
sectors of the global economy, consumers want to make the right choice. They know there are alternatives
to each product. They know the reputation of the brand impacts their buying decision.
In my judgement an effective value proposition clearly articulates the primary benefit or benefits that the
business delivers to its customers; and these benefits are both differentiated from what competitors offer
and genuine value to customers. Too often, however, the latter criterion is not met because value
propositions are articulated in company - rather than customer-centric language. To avoid falling into this
trap, one question should be considered regularly namely; ‘what is the benefit of the benefit?’
