ROBOCar is a wireless RC car with Raspberry Pi as it's brain. The car is controlled using a Nintendo Wii Mote's Accelerometer, over bluetooth. The project won the "Best Project of 2013" in CSE/IT/MCA All years Category award in aDAVitya '13, our college tech fest, where it was the ONLY first year project showcased.

  • 2. The Power of Pi • A small credit card sized computer with an enormous potential for use in small to medium level projects, home and education purposes.
  • 3. Technical Specifications • A Broadcom BCM2835 CPU (ARM11 Architecture) • 512 MB RAM Shared with GPU • A full blown HDMI Port with 1080p video rendering capabilities. • RJ45, 2x USB, 1x Power, RCA Video Jack, 3.5mm Audio Out, 26 GPIO Pins
  • 4. Python • Python is a general purpose, high level programming language whose design philosophy emphasizes code readability. Python's syntax allows for programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as and the language provides constructs intended to enable clear programs on both a small and large scale
  • 5. And now the Car itself
  • 6. The Major Outline of this project • The major outline of this project is NOT the car itself, as it’s relatively easy and common to make one. The main motive of creating this project was to harness the power of a spectacular device, and the device is….
  • 7. The Wii Mote! • You must have heard of Nintendo Wii, well, quite obviously it’s controller is called the Wii Mote. It’s a great hacker friendly device, which can be paired with Linux using python.
  • 8. But then what? • I interfaced the Wii Mote on my Raspberry Pi to detect key presses, but the best part is, it doesn’t matter anymore! • The Wii Mote has an inbuilt Accelerometer, and the ROBO Car is controlled by the accelerometer, NOT BY ANY BUTTONS!
  • 9. But How? • It was quite a mess when I was working with the accelerometer, but Python made it possible. • The Car goes forward when you tilt the Wii Mote forward, it goes reverse when you tilt the Wii Mote backwards. Similar for Left and Right as well, just tilt the Mote in either direction.
