Target audience powerpoint (1)

 1. 1. Research: Target Audience By Lewis Turgoose My Target Audience What They Like In Trailers What My Audience Want Online Target Audience Research Film Examples for My Target Audience Next Page
 2. 2. What My Target Audience Is

My Target audience is going to be teenagers or young adults but there’s a chance that my film may appeal to an audience over this age. I came to the conclusion of this being my target audience by reviewing the results of showing people the different idea’s I had come up with for each genre. I then looked at the range of people I showed my ideas to and saw what the most popular idea was in general and in terms of age and gender.

 3. 3. Online Research

To find out what my target audience want to see in my film I put up a small questionnaire on the internet. This is because it allows me to reach a more wide range of people and from many different lifestyles and backgrounds. It will be beneficial for me to do this as it will not only give results from one general area like it would do if I only sent a paper questionnaire round.

To view my online questionnaire and results click the button below

My Questionnaire
 4. 4. What my Target Audience Want in a Film

To find out what my target audience want to see in a film I conducted a questionnaire that I handed around my school to all forms from year 9 upwards. This is because my target audience starts at 13 years old which would be year 9 students and it ranges all the way up to the elder pupils in the school who are 19 years of age. I also handed my questionnaire to the teachers in my school to find the results for the upper end of my target audience.

Results
 5. 5. My Results

Through conducting this research I found out that most Males aged 14 – 19 preferred to watch action and horror films. This is why my film will probably attract a female audience. Also I found out that out of the people who chose drama they wanted to see some form of life changing experience, a happy ending and some form of self-realisation. My film will have to contain these features in order to attract my audience. Also as a result of my research I found out that people expect a love scene in a drama film. However I think that would make it into more of a romance film then a drama so I don’t think I’m going to have a love story within my film.

Back
 6. 6. What Draws my Target Audience into watching a film by watching a trailer

To find out this information I designed another questionnaire to be attached to the back of my previous one. This is because in doing this I can control the people who are answering my questions and ensure that I receive fair and accurate results. It is important that it’s the same people as they have already answered half of my research questions and if I ask different people the second section of my questionnaire I’m not getting accurate results.

Results
 7. 7. My Results

Through looking at the answers to the second section of my questionnaire it is apparent that the tension in a film trailer makes them want to go see the film, so that they will know what happens in the end. Also it became clear that people expect a trailer to end with some form of cliff hanger ending to make the audience want to know what happens next. Another thing they wanted was to be able to relate to the characters through the trailer so they have some form of emotional connection to the character and want to know what happens to them in the end. It also became clear that music is a big factor in their decision to go watch a film in the cinema, and they expect to hear some form of instrumental music in the trailer that climaxes as the action does. I think that all of these results are valid and that I should take them all into account to reach and attract my target audience.

Back

 10. 10. Mean Girls

I chose to use this trailer because it is a popular film within my target audience and I could possibly learn a lot from the way they have filmed and edited this trailer in terms of why it’s so successful.

Video From: Back
 11. 11. King Kong

I chose this film because it’s not only been a huge success within my target audience it’s also a drama film which makes it even more relevant to my film.

Video From: Back
 12. 12. August Rush

I chose to use this trailer because it’s a drama and it’s aimed at the same audience as my film. But it’s also based around the same theme as my film which makes it even more relevant for me to study the way in which the trailer is edited and filmed to attract it’s audience.

Video From: Back
