Drama genre research powerpoint (1) Presentation Transcript

  • 1. Research: Drama Genre By Lewis Turgoose What Makes A Drama Film What The Trailers Contain How A Drama Film Is Structured Codes And Conventions What The Posters Look Like Next Page
  • 2. What makes a Drama Film?
    • A drama film is essentially a drama film because of the way it makes the audience relate and sympathise with the characters. This is done through a mixture of a cleverly written script, a heightened level of tension and a good use of editing.
  • 3. How a Drama film is structured?
    • A drama film is structured in a very specific way in order to keep the audiences attention, and make them become emotionally attached to the action what is going on in the film. To do this they structure the films to have climaxes and anti-climaxes so that there are peaks and troths in the tension. This keeps the audience interested and stops their mind wandering from the film.
  • 4. What are the codes and conventions of a drama film?
    • There has to be peaks and troths in the storyline.
    • The characters must be easily accessible for the audience (they must be easy to relate to)
    • There is some form of realisation at the end of the film
    • It is important that the main character has clear relationships to themselves and other people in the film.
    • Realistic storylines
    • Some form of journey
    • A happy ever after
  • 5. What Do The Trailers Usually Contain?
    • Cliff hangers

  • 7. Film Poster Examples August Rush The Last Song Letters To Juliet
  • 8. August Rush
    • I chose to look at the movie poster for August Rush because it’s very similar to my film in terms of genre and theme. This means that my poster is going to contain similar sorts of imagery in order to attract my audience.
    • This movie poster is effective because it gives the target audience a basic overview of what the movies about, by the way the main character is holding a guitar. However it doesn’t give away the actual story line of the film. This is a successful movie poster because of the way it attracts it’s audience without ruining the film. This means that I’ll draw influence from this movie poster.

  • 9. Letters To Juliet
    • I chose this film because it’s a successful drama film. This means that if I take inspiration from this film poster I could draw my target audience in.
    • In this film poster they don’t necessarily give any hints at what the film is about and could intrigue the audience. This makes them want to come and watch the film, which is why it’s successful.

  • 10. The Last Song
    • I chose this film poster because it shows how editing can be used effectively for drama film posters.
    • You can see that the main theme in this film is relationships. This is shown by the way there’s a boy and a girl walking on the beach. The people who made this poster wanted the audience to have a vague idea of what the films about by the way there is “A story about family first loves, second chances and the moments in life that lead you back home”. This suggests that the films going to have all of these things contain within it. I could also explore this possibility in my film poster.
