  19. Osteospermum - Points to a better crop
    • Misting in Propagation: Osteospermum need more mist than other crops, they need misting much longer. Avoid over saturation of the soil in the first 10-14 days by misting in shorter intervals and less mist time, keep the cutting moist. Most critical are the first 4 days.
    • Temperature in Propagation: Keep soil temperature at 70 °F especially during the first 14 days of root development. Don’t harden your liners off to harsh by moving them into a cool / cold area. Do it in stages, otherwise it will reduce branching and root growths after transplant.
  20. Osteospermum - Points to a better crop
    • Temperature after transplanting: Keep the temperature up, days at 68-72 °F and nights at 61-64 °F until the plants started to branch and the side-shoots are about 1-inch long.
    • Substrate, Fertilizer, pH, and EC: Use a well-draining, peat-moss based substrate that will maintain its structure during the longer crop time. Keep pH at about 6.2 and salt levels below EC 2.0.
    • Pinching: Don’t wait until the liner is overgrown. Keep cuttings soft, growing, and compact before the pinch.
  21. Osteospermum - Points to a better crop
    • The Golden Rule: One thing at a time.
    • Transplant in one week
    • Next week pinch
    • Next week drench PGR (or 2 weeks depending on the side shoots, which should be about 1-inch long)
    • Next week lower the temperatures
  22. Osteospermum - April / May flowering
    • North, spring flowering - 5-inch pot
    • 14 - 15 weeks crop time.
    • Week 1-5 rooting
    • Week 6 transplant, keep the temperature at 68°F
    • Week 7 pinch
    • Week 8 or 9 PGR drench when side-shoots are about 1-inch long
    • Week 9 or 10 lower the temperature to 58-62°F for flower development
    • The plants will flower in about 6 - 7 weeks

    • GPN Magazine, October 2008:
    • Scaevola Fairy series
    • The Fairy series of scaevola from Selecta First Class has three new colors: Blue evol., White and Violet. We evaluated all three in this year’s trial and they have very similar habits, with Violet being slightly more vigorous than the other two. They are a semi-compact series, more compact than ‘Bombay blue’ but not as compact as the Surdiva series. All had good flower coverage by late May and maintained this high level of flowering throughout the summer. The compact nature of this series will help them from getting too intertwined during production, and a light PGR application will help minimize that issue. Their semi-compact nature lends them to basket production and they will also function as  low-growing plants in landscaping.
