Objective <ul><li>To create a virtual community for my extended family to :- </li></ul><ul><li>Share family news and events </li></ul><ul><li>Share photographs </li></ul><ul><li>Develop a communal address book and </li></ul><ul><li>Gather and upload family history stories </li></ul><ul><li>Chat and keep in touch </li></ul>

Platform <ul><li>A WIKI is the preferred choice for this virtual community as it has the following features :- </li></ul><ul><li>Communication tools to engage the users and encourage social interaction </li></ul><ul><li>Content is editable by all users </li></ul><ul><li>Instant chat capability </li></ul><ul><li>Storage online of photos and documents to be shared by the group </li></ul><ul><li>E-learning resources can be embedded and always readily available </li></ul>
  4. 4. What is a Wiki? A Wiki can be described as a website that allows visitors to add, remove, edit and change its content. The most well known wiki, and reportedly the most visited site on the web, is Wikipedia Click on the link below to learn about Wikis, and look at some of the different sites available

Learning Environment <ul><li>In order for the community to work, learning resources will be developed and provided to educate the users on :- </li></ul><ul><li>How to navigate around the site </li></ul><ul><li>How to edit the WIKI and contribute their input </li></ul><ul><li>How to upload digital photos </li></ul><ul><li>How to scan old photos </li></ul><ul><li>How to record interviews with family members and upload audio files </li></ul>

Technology <ul><li>Technology to be explored for use in the development and facilitation of this site are:- </li></ul><ul><li>Sony Vegas for the development of multimedia learning resources </li></ul><ul><li>A web based Avatar to be the face of the Community, using a provider such as Sitepal . Costs should be minimal for this size of project (US$9.95 per month) </li></ul>
