Torres - Achievements <ul><li>Received the NHS “Book Award” from the University of Pennsylvania for being in the top 13 students of DHS 2010 class. </li></ul><ul><li>Received Academic Excellence Award from the City of Worcester for a perfect score in Math MCAS. </li></ul><ul><li>Won the engineering project design award in the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) STRIVE Summer Program for two consecutive years (2007 & 2008). </li></ul><ul><li>Received the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship in September 2009. This scholarship covers full tuition for all four college years (limited to Mass. state universities). </li></ul>

Torres - Achievements <ul><li>Fifth highest GPA of my 2010 graduating class of 356. </li></ul><ul><li>Member of Worcester Public High Schools (WPS) Crew team in 2007 and 2008. </li></ul><ul><li>Member of WPI MASTER (Math And Science Technology Education Resource Program) for three years (from 2007 to 2009). The program helps minority urban high school students explore the engineering, math and science fields. </li></ul><ul><li>Presently doing an internship for the Practical Engineering course. The internship is with the Hibernian Cultural Center in Worcester. Project consists of a complete re-design of the building’s basement. </li></ul>

Full mechanical assembly was required in addition to mounting and soldering of electronic components following a schematic. </li></ul><ul><li>Kit was an Electrical Engineering Class project. My car was the first one finished and the only one to work as intended out of ten cars. </li></ul>

Bug kit was a present from WPI MASTER Program. </li></ul><ul><li>Full mechanical assembly was required in addition to mounting and soldering of electronic components following a schematic. </li></ul><ul><li>Bugbot consists of a retro-reflective photoeye that detects obstacles and causes it to back up and change direction. Torres - Goals <ul><li>I want to graduate from the best engineering university to become an excellent and creative electrical engineer. </li></ul><ul><li>I envision myself helping the world by designing electric power systems that use eco-friendly renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels. </li></ul><ul><li>I wish to leave a legacy of cheap, renewable energy, electricity sources available to even the poorest nations of the world. </li></ul>

Torres - Inspirations <ul><li>Nikola Tesla – For his creativeness and life-long contributions to humanity that gave us alternating current systems, remote controls, radio and many more. </li></ul><ul><li>Mom and Dad – For showing me what unconditional love is all about. </li></ul><ul><li>Gabriel Torres – My poet dreamer brother who made his dreams come true. Graduated BSEE from MIT in 2009. </li></ul><ul><li>Eduardo Torres – My musician brother with the noble heart who discovered the power to become anything he wanted. Graduating December 2009, BSEE from Georgia Tech. </li></ul><ul><li>Juan J. Chico – For showing me how far an education, hard work and a positive attitude can take you. </li></ul><ul><li>William Hankey – For his true commitment and dedication to teaching engineering with excellence and purpose. </li></ul>
