  • 2. www.bushmarketing.ca andy@bushmarketing.ca Welcome to the wonderful world of Social Media! It is a very powerful and often confusing form of marketing, but with an effective plan and some patience it can yield tremendous rewards. Let’s start with some basics about Social Media and what it means to market in that realm.
  • 3. www.bushmarketing.ca andy@bushmarketing.ca What is Social Media Marketing? Social Media Marketing is enigmatic. It is unlike any form of marketing that has ever existed. The soft and the hard sells don’t work here. It requires a delicate touch and a keen insight into the best ways to approach a potential customer. Imagine yourself in a conversation with a stranger at a cocktail party. You would love to have him as a customer but the environment, a social gathering, doesn’t lend itself to selling. In fact, by attempting to sell to this person the potential exists to offend them and thereby not only lose a potential customer, but possibly sully the reputation of your company, a reputation that you’ve invested years in building. Well this is the nature of social media. It’s a great, big cocktail party with conversations and chatter and fun and laughs. People are showing each other photos of their kids, talking about their vacations, and chatting about that great new product/service they just discovered. And that’s where we come in. It is our goal to introduce your product or service into that conversation in a manner with which consumers feel comfortable. We aim to generate positive conversations among people, their friends and their family about what your company does and how well you do it!

  • 5. www.bushmarketing.ca andy@bushmarketing.ca I have a website for my business. Isn’t that enough? Many companies invest a lot of time and money into creating appealing websites and then become frustrated because it doesn’t generate any new business. The purpose of a website is to have a place online in which potential consumers can learn more about your business and possibly purchase services and goods. That being said, it doesn’t matter how attractive or effective your website is if no one is looking at it. Similarly, one could create a compelling print ad but it will prove to be fruitless if no one reads the publication! Social Media Marketing addresses just that. The purpose of it is to generate activity or “buzz” about your company and your brand. It is the end result of effective social media marketing to have people viewing your website and learning about your company.
  • 6. www.bushmarketing.ca andy@bushmarketing.ca Social Media Marketing Benefits Awareness The true power of Social Media Marketing comes from the growth of awareness of your product or service. The more people are talking about you, the more exposure you have to potential customers. Accessibility As this awareness continues to grow, search engines will take notice and increase your ranking making it easier for potential customers to discover you through organic search results. Relationships With the personalized touch that Social Media offers, a person or business can develop meaningful relationships with their customers in a manner that traditional advertising cannot provide. Humanization Social Media Marketing allows you a platform to show your current and potential customers that there is a heart beating beneath the company. Trust There is no better way to acquire new customers than through the recommendations and testimonials of their loved ones. Feedback Gauge and react to the comments being made about your company, your services and your products.
  • 7. www.bushmarketing.ca andy@bushmarketing.ca How Business is Changing “I don’t understand Social Media Marketing, but I feel like I have to do it. I feel like I’ve been left behind.” The marketing landscape over the past ten years has changed so dramatically that it can leave traditionalists struggling to keep up and comprehend “the new way” of things. Digital marketing, for the uninitiated, can often feel like a daunting prospect. There are so many methods of marketing, whether it is social interaction on Facebook & Twitter, establishing business connections on Linkedin, creating custom content written for a business blog, or videos created for and posted on YouTube. Where are you supposed to start? The truth is simply this; determine which you believe is the best method to communicate with your customers and utilize the venue best suited for you. Here is a quick breakdown of the top sites. 1. Facebook – The top social network by far. Developing relationships by sharing thoughts, images and videos. The most well rounded and least specialized of the Social Media sites. Ideal for almost all companies. 2. Twitter – Allows the user to convey snippets of information (140 characters or less) including links. Ideal for independent professionals and service businesses with a social element (e.g. restaurants). 3. Pinterest – Entirely image driven, shows the best click-to-website rate of all the social networks. Ideal for any industry that favours visualization over the conveyance of information (e.g. hair salon, bakery). 4. Linkedin – Generally used for people of business to connect and build relationships. Ideal for entrepreneurs and independent professionals (e.g. attorneys, realtors). 5. YouTube – Entirely video driven, offers huge potential for company videos to “go viral” and gain exposure at an exponential rate. Excellent for offering tips and education to customers. Ideal for service industries and anyone who wishes to offer information in a visual format (e.g. financial planners, mechanics, etc.) 6. Google + - Excellent for increasing exposure and maximizing search engine optimization.
