Intranet idea assessment and development - Presentation Transcript
Notes:
Seeking your feedback on following (very draft) framework of dimensions for assessment and development of ideas for intranet development. What would you change? What have I forgotten? What do you like? Feedback via Twitter , or email please.
My aim is to formalise our largely informal current approach which has been influenced by our team’s experiences as well as by the work of Step Two Designs (specifically their 6x2 Methodology, Intranet Hive and Intranet Innovation Awards) and others.
These dimensions are not absolute, but rather degrees to consider when deciding whether or not to pursue an idea, or to help develop the idea into something worth pursuing.
Likelihood of success? Business support? Enables completion? Strategic alignment? Breadth of impact? Community focus? dimensions
Likelihood of success? Business support? Enables completion? Low ............................................. High How much does the value outweigh the cost? Consider overall value to business & staff as well as enablers (eg, business champion) and constraints (eg, tight timeline). Support ........................................ Core How directly does this support business mission / strategy / objectives? Does it enable a core activity or is it more of a support task? Find .............................................. Finish Staff need to get things done. How directly does this help staff complete the things that they need to do?
Breadth of impact? Strategic alignment? Community focus? Narrow ........................................ Whole How widely useful is this going to be? Is it just for a single business area, or is it relevant to the whole company? Peripheral .................................... Direct How much is this aligned with existing intranet, IM, KM and/or IT strategies? Individual .....................................Group How does the idea support people to work well with one another, rather than alone?
