Connotations of a magazine

  1. 1. Connotations of a magazine
  2. 2. MastheadThis is the title of the magazine. This is going to be the first thing that the reader is going to see as, in a shop magazines are stacked so only the title is showing. Therefore, this needs to be at the top of the page, eye catching, easy to read, and it needs to appeal to the target audience otherwise they will not pick it up.The title need to say what the magazine is about, for example. ‘Total Film’ is a magazine about films.
  3. 3. HeadlineThis is usually the second thing people see. This is going to be the thing that draws everyone in, and make them want to buy this magazine. It’s the main convention you’ve got to sell this to the costumer. .
  4. 4. The unique selling pointIt usually says something that pretty much implies that this magazine is the best magazine you can buy for the particular subject/interest. The thing that tells the costumer this isn’t your usual magazine, it has something more, something that the costumer needs to have.
  5. 5. FontYour going to have to think about the suitable font for you magazine to fit the target audience. If your magazine is for business people who are very serious and the magazine gives serious information, then comic sans isn’t going to be the best font to use.Again, if your magazine is for children, then writing in new roman times is also not going to be the best. It has to appeal to the right audience otherwise they are not going to get enjoyment out of reading it.
  6. 6. Date lineThis is the month and year that the magazine was published, usually next to the price. Note that a monthly magazine usually hits the news-stands the month before the cover date
  7. 7. Main imageThis is the biggest image in the page, usually in the middle and creates the whole background of the magazine. The model is usually someone attractive who will be featuring in this magazine. Most of the times they are making eye contact with the camera to really grab the costumer’s attention.
