  • 1. Who Is Jesus Of Nazareth?Who was Jesus of Nazareth? For nearly two thousand many years, the world has debated thisquestion. Some say He was a prophet. Some think he or she was a madman. Still other people thinkHe was a great teacher. But for those who recognize His voice, the question is not really Who wasJesus of Nazareth?, but rather Who is Jesus of Nazareth? Because unlike other men of history, christ of Nazareth was, is, and will be for all of eternity.A careful examination of the historical record reveals that jesus of Nazareth is nothing under the Wordof God dwelling as flesh among males. The Holy Spirit of God became a man as well as walkedamong us:"in the beginning the Word already existed. The term was with God, and the Word was God." john 1:1(NLT)"So the Word became individual and made his home in our midst." John 1:14 (NLT)"In Christ life all the fullness of lord in a human body." Colossians two :9 (NLT)While most of the worlds people desperately look for truth - to become nearer to God Almighty, thecreator of the Universe - the doorway is wide open for them to encounter a personal relationship withthat same God. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Their name is Jesus associated withNazareth. But dont take my personal word for it. God includes a number of identifiable character characteristics. If Jesus of Nazareth is worthy of the name of God Almighty and Lord of Heavens Armies, then thehistorical account of His life will reveal that He shared these unique traits. Lets examine all of them.Omniscient (All-Knowing)The meaning of God requires Him to become all-knowing. God must have understanding of all things, including the thoughts associated with others. Did Jesus exhibit this character trait? indeed. He did.History reveals a number of instances in which jesus displayed His omniscience. Here, well examinea few.The Coin In The Fish -- Jesus illustrated His understanding of the future, as well as His understandingof the most minute details of development when He revealed to His disciples that they were to trap afish, open its mouth, and find a large gold coin inside:"drop the lake and toss in a line. Open the actual mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find alarge silver coin." Matthew 17:27 (NLT)The Samaritan Woman - on meeting a Samaritan lady, Jesus told her everything your woman hadever done. Their knowledge was enough to convince her that He had been the Messiah, and Hiswords were enough to persuade many in her town that hes the Living Son of God:"Many Samaritans from the village believed in christ because the woman had said, He told meeverything i ever did!" john 4:39 (NLT)"You Know Everything" - the actual disciples, who spent additional time with Jesus during his earthlyministry than anyone else, testified that He knows every thing - the very definition of omniscience:"Now we realize that you know everything, and theres you dont need to question you. From this we
  • 2. believe that you came from God." john 16:30 (NLT)"A third time he asked him, "Simon son associated with John, do you love me personally" Peter washurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, Lord, you know everything. You know that ireally like you." John 21 :17 (NLT)12-Year aged Jesus In The Temple - As a young boy, christ and His family made a pilgrimage to theTemple in Jerusalem. While there, Jesus amazed the Jewish religious instructors with Hisunderstanding:"three days later they finally discovered him in the forehead, sitting among the religious instructors, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his knowing and hisanswers." Luke 2 :46-47 (NLT)"how does He Know All This?" - Jesus taught in the forehead, and the people were amazed at theactual depth of His knowledge, since He was not a man educated and trained through men:"Then, half way through the festival, Jesus went up to the Temple and began to teach. The peoplehad been surprised when they heard him or her. How does he know so much when he hasnt beentrained? they asked." John 7:14-15 (NLT)"One Of You Will Betray Me" - Jesus experienced fore-knowledge of His betrayal. He knew that oneof the very trusted members of their inner-circle would betray him or her :"Then Jesus stated, I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil. He was speaking of Judas, son ofSimon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who does later betray him." john 6:70-71 (NLT)Jesus Knew Of His death - Jesus had complete knowledge of His purpose in coming into the world. He understood what would happen to Him, the hands by which it would happen, and the miraculousevent which may take place three days later :"From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go toJerusalem, and that he might suffer many terrible points at the hands of the elders, the leadingpriests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the 3rd day he would be raisedfrom the dead." Matthew 16 :21 (NLT)Omnipotent (All-Powerful)A second character characteristic of God is omnipotence. By definition, God is actually all-powerful.He has power total things. Did Jesus associated with Nazareth exhibit this character trait? Historyreveals that he did.The Power To forgive Sin - According to the old Testament, only God has the power to forgive sins. And the Prophet Jeremiah prophesied during the day when God will eliminate men of theirwickedness and never again remember their sins:"And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins." Jeremiah 31:34(NLT)Yet, in spite of His understanding that only God can forgive sins, Jesus clearly announced His ownpower to forgive sins, thus revealing themself as God:"seeing their faith, Jesus believed to the paralyzed man, My child, your sins tend to be forgiven. Butsome of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, What is he stating
  • 3. This is blasphemy! Only god can forgive sins!a " Mark 2:5-11 (NLT)Power To Lay Down his Life - Throughout history, men and woman have died. Despite the immensepower some of these individuals wielded, not a single one of them displayed the power to come backto life once lifeless. Yet Jesus claimed to possess this power:"the daddy loves me because i sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. No one can take my lifefrom me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also totake it up again." john 10:17-18 (NLT)Three days and three nights after His crucifixion, christ of Nazareth exhibited this power.Power Over blowing wind and Waves - like one would expect of god, Jesus of Nazareth experiencedpower over wind as well as waves:"When jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the flaming waves. Suddenly the surprise stoppedand all was relaxed. Then he asked them, Where is your faith? the disciples were terrified as well asamazed. Who is this guy they asked each other. When he gives a order, even the wind and surfobey him!" luke 8:24-25 (NLT)Power Over Fish - much like His power of the blowing wind and waves, Jesus illustrated His powerover all associated with creation by commanding the movements of fish:"Then he said, Throw your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and youll get some ! So they did, plus they couldnt haul in the internet because there were so many fish in it." John 21:6 (NLT)His Breath Blew Down Soldiers - the actual Roman Army is known throughout human history as oneof the most callous and powerful fighting forces the world has ever known. Yet, christ of Nazarethcast Roman soldiers to the ground with the really breath of His mouth area :"As Jesus said I AM he, they all drew back as well as fell to the ground!" John 18 :6 (NLT)Power over Physical RealmIn addition, the miracles of Jesus testify to His identity. They proclaim His power over the physicaluniverse:"a guy with leprosy came as well as knelt in front of Jesus, pleading to be healed. If you are willing, you can heal me personally and make me clean,a he said. Moved with empathy, Jesus reached outas well as touched him. I am willing, he said. Be healed! Instantly the actual leprosy disappeared, and the guy was healed." Mark one :40-42 (NLT)"following Jesus left the girls home, two blind males followed along behind him, shouting, Son ofdonald, have mercy on us! They went right into the home where he was staying, and Jesus askedthem, Do you believe I can cause you to see? Yes, head of the family, they told him, we do. hethen touched their eyes and said, Because of your faith, it will happen. after that their eyes wereopened, and they could see!" Matthew 9 :27-30 (NLT)"among the men lying there had been ill for thirty-eight years. Whenever Jesus saw him and knew hehad been sick for a long time, he asked him, Would you like to get nicely I cant, mister, the sick guysaid, for I have no one to put me into the swimming pool when the water bubbles up. Someone elsealways gets there ahead of me. jesus told him, Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk! Instantly, theperson was healed! He rolled away his sleeping mat as well as began walking!" John 5 :5-17 (NLT)
  • 4. "he saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind as well aswaves. About three oclock each morning Jesus came toward all of them, walking on the water. He orshe intended to go past all of them, but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out interror, considering he was a ghost." tag 6:48-49 (NLT)And Jesus performed many other wonders which required power within the physical universe, far toomany to be examined here.Omnipresent (Ever-Present)By definition, God is omnipresent. He is everywhere all the time. He exists in all locations in the past, present, and long term. Can this be said of christ Did Jesus of Nazareth really exhibit this charactertrait? Yes. He did."I Saw you Under The Fig Tree" - Upon first meeting Nathanael, Jesus proclaimed that He noticedhim under the fig tree earlier that day. His declaration mesmerized Nathanael, who recognized this asknowledge which no other man could have. However Jesus was there. As the omnipresent Spirit ofgod, He was present whenever Nathanael was under the fig tree:"As they approached, Jesus said, Now here is a genuine son of Israel - a man of complete integrity. How do you know about me? Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, I could see you under the fig treebefore Philip found you. Then Nathanael exclaimed, Rabbi, you are the son of God - the actual Kingof Israel! " John 1:47-49 (NLT)The Holy Spirit - God is Spirit, and the Spirit of God became flesh in the name of Jesus of Nazareth:"In the beginning the Word already been around. The Word was with lord, and the Word was god. Heexisted in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was createdexcept through him. The word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light toeveryone. The sunshine shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish this." John1:1-5 (NLT)Be With You Always -- Reminding them of their omnipresence, Jesus assured their disciples Hewould always be with them, even to the end of the grow older :"And be sure of this particular : I am with you always, even going to the end of the age." Matthew28:20 (NLT)This unique ability to be present along with each individual (not just the 12 disciples, but all whobelieve in Him), at all times throughout history, is demonstrative from the omnipresence of Jesus.Him Who Fills All -- In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul testifies that jesus "fills all things everywherealong with himself":"And the church is his body; its made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere withhimself." Ephesians 1 :23 (NLT)EternalYet an additional characteristic of God is actually His eternal nature. God is not bound by time ordeath. He is the foremost and the Last, the Alpha and also the Omega. According to the Oldtestament, there is no other God:"This is what the Lord says -- Israels King and Redeemer, the Lord of Heavens Armies: I am the
  • 5. First and the final ; there is no other God. " Isaiah 44:6 (NLT)Does this character characteristic describe Jesus of Nazareth? The Apostle John testified yes:"When I noticed him, I fell from his feet as if we were dead. But he laid his right hands on me andsaid, Dont be afraid! I am the foremost and the Last." Revelation one :17 (NLT)What did Jesus Say?So much, weve examined the evidence because recorded by the Old testomony prophets and theNew testomony witnesses. But what did Jesus Himself have to say about this subject? If had beentruly the righteous religious teacher and holy man many claim Him to become, would He call themselfGod if to do so had been false? Of course not. Yet this is exactly what Jesus claimed. On numerousoccasions, He unequivocally mentioned that He is God Almighty. The Father and I Are One -- Jesus Himself claimed to become equal with God:"The Father and I are one." steve 10:30 (NLT)Before Abraham, I AM - according to the Old Testament, when Moses requested to the know thename of God, the Almighty replied "I AM":"but Moses protested, If time passes to the people of Israel and tell them, The lord of your ancestorshas delivered me to you, theyll ask me, What is actually his name? after that what should I tellthem?a God replied to Moses, I AM WHO im. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me toyou. " Exodus 3:13-14 (NLT)In answering His experts, Jesus proclaimed Himself to be "I AM":"Jesus clarified, I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, i am !" John 8:58 (NLT)"Philip, not Know Me?" - when Philip asked to see the daddy, Jesus plainly told him or her he hadalready seen the father. To look upon Jesus, is to look upon the Father:"Jesus replied, Have i been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still dont know who I am?Anyone who has seen me has seen the father ! So why are you asking me to show him to you?a "John 14:9 (NLT)You Will See the son of Man on Clouds of Heaven - While standing before the High Priest to beinterrogated, Jesus was asked who He was. NO one with knowledge of the Old testament scripturescan mistake his response:"Jesus replied, You have said it. And in the future you will see the boy of Man seated in the place ofpower at Gods right hand and coming on the actual clouds of heaven. " Matthew 26:64 (NLT)By claiming they would see Him seated in the place of power at Gods correct hand, Jesus wasproclaiming Himself to be the Lord from the Old Testament:"the lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until we humble your enemies, which makes them a footstool under your ft." Psalm 110:1 (NLT)By claiming they would see Him coming on the clouds of heaven, jesus was proclaiming Himself to bethe One whose rule is actually eternal:"As my personal vision continued that evening, I saw someone like a son of man coming using theclouds of heaven. He or she approached the Ancient 1 and was led into his presence. He washanded authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every
  • 6. race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal - it will never end. Their kingdomwill never be destroyed." Daniel 7:13-14 (NLT)Jesus proclaimed Himself to be none other than God Himself.Accepts worship From Others Without Rebuke - In addition to His claims, what Jesus didnt state hasa lot to say about His identity. For example, Jesus clearly stated a person must only worship God:"Get from here, Satan, christ told him. For the actual Scriptures say, You must worship the Lordyour god and serve only him." Matthew 4:ten (NLT)Yet, when people worshipped Jesus or fell lower at His feet or even called Him Lord, he or she didnot rebuke them. He or she did not respond to them through saying, "Im only a guy. Dont worshipme." instead, He perpetuated the notion he should be honored like god the Father:"He has given the Son absolute expert to judge, so that everyone may honor the Son, just as theyhonor the Father." john 5:22-23 (NLT)The following examples show jesus accepting this high compliment and honor:"My Lord and my god ! Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, You believe because you haveseen me personally. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me. " John 20:28-29 (NLT)"Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him as well as knelt before him. Lord, the man said, ifyou are willing, you can recover me and make me thoroughly clean." Matthew 8:2 (NLT)"But she came and worshiped him or her, pleading again, Lord, help me !" Matthew 15:25 (NLT)"And as these people went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, understood hisfeet, and worshiped him." Matthew 28:nine (NLT)"Yes, head of the family, I believe! the man said. And he worshiped Jesus." john 9:38 (NLT)In each of these instance, human beings gave Jesus praise, honor, as well as titles worthy of Godalone. And He gladly accepted their own praise. What Did lord Almighty Say?If christ were the only witness of His divinity, then He really should not be believed. But Hes not theonly witness. His Father in heaven also testified towards the identity of Jesus associated withNazareth:"And a tone of voice from heaven said, This is my dearly cherished Son, who brings me personallygreat joy." Matthew 3:17 (NLT)I Will Share My glory With No OneThe Old testament clearly documents Gods purpose to share His glory with no one else:"i am the Lord; that is my name ! I will not give my personal glory to anyone else, nor share my praisealong with carved idols." Isaiah 42 :8 (NLT)In truth, one of the ten commandments prohibits worship of false gods:"You must not have any other god but me." Exodus 20:3 (NLT)If God will not share his glory with anyone else, after that by definition, Jesus associated withNazareth can not share in his glory. Unless, of course, jesus and God are one and also the same. And this is the position put forth by the Creator of the Universe:Gods Voice Speaks
  • 7. God testified before men he would bring glory towards the name of Jesus:"Father, bring glory to your name. Then a voice spoke from heaven, stating, I have already broughtglory to my name, and that i will do so again. " John 12:28 (NLT)And Jesus spoke from the glory they share:"Now, Father, bring me into the glory we discussed before the world began." steve 17:5 (NLT)Following the birth of christ, a host of angels praised god in full sight of men, thus giving glory toJesus:"Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others - the armies of heaven - praising God andsaying, Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom god is pleased."luke 2:13-14 (NLT)John also testifies to the beauty of Jesus:"we have seen his glory, the actual glory of the Fathers one and only Son." John 1:fourteen (NLT)Its the same beauty God proclaimed He would share with His son in the old Testament:"The king proclaims the Lords decree: The Lord said to me personally, You are my boy. Today Ihave become your dad." Psalm 2:7 (NLT)How could god glorify Jesus, and remain true to His word to never give His glory to anyone else, unless giving glory to Jesus is the same as providing glory to God?ConclusionThe characteristics of God, just about all shared by Jesus of Nazareth, reflect the fulfillment of an OldTestament prophecy - a promise to the world. God promised a sign, that the virgin would conceive akid, a boy whose title means God is with us, meaning He would be God in the flesh:"All right then, the Lord themself will give you the sign. Look ! The virgin will newborn child! She willgive delivery to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means God is with us)." Isaiah 7:14 (NLT)This prophecy had been fulfilled in the birth of Jesus of Nazareth:"As he considered this, a good angel of the Lord seemed to him in a dream. Joseph, son of David, the angel said, do not be afraid to take jane as your wife. For the child within her was created by theHoly Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, with regard to he will save hispeople from their sins. all this occurred to fulfill the Lords message through his prophet: Look! Thevirgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and theyll call him Immanuel, which meansGod is with us." Matthew 1:20-23 (NLT)Yet, despite this miraculous sign, and the miraculous life which adopted, most of the world has failedto recognize the Creator among them. They Did Not Recognize HimThis is the message of the Gospel of John. God came into the planet in human form, yet the veryworld He created failed to recognize Him:"He came into the very globe he created, but the world didnt recognize him." john 1:10 (NLT)Even those who lay claim to the wisdom of this world failed to recognize their own Creator:"But the rulers of this globe have not understood it; when they had, they would not have crucified ourglorious Lord." 1 Corinthians 2:8 (NLT)
  • 8. Even many self-proclaimed christian believers fail to recognize the true identity of Jesus of Nazareth. He is the Christ, god, the father of lords, and full of kings. He is the actual Alpha and the Omega, thebeginning and the end.Dont repeat the mistakes of those who refuse to acknowledge the glory associated with Jesus ofNazareth. He is more than a holy man, the prophet, and a teacher. He is God among us.Jeremiah 29
