      Our web portals were having a number serious issues
      • 50% of our business is online.
      • 11. In a word OUCH!
      • 12. Legacy 3rd party hosting environment
      • 13. Environment severely overloaded
      • 14. The support approach - reboot!
      • 15. Scaling up - buy more hardware
      • 16. Cost – expensive
      • 17. Business losing patience...
    • So what did we do...?
      Clearly things had to change.
      • We knew we needed

      • 21. Ability to run anything our hearts desired!

      • 23. 2 x “Traditional” hosting offerings
      • 24. 2 x Cloud offerings
    • We quickly realised...
      That AWS was different from the other solutions
      • We were able to
      • 25. Build servers in minutes
      • 26. Run whatever we wanted
      • 27. Scale on demand or on trigger
      • 28. Create multiple layers of redundancy
      • 29. And...
      • 30. We were saving money
      • 31. Even the Dev Manager was excited!
      He’s a genius at PHP
    • 32. So where are we now...?
      • Learning portals – migrated 4 months ago
      • 33. Test and dev environments – migrated 4 months ago
      • 34. Marketing sites – going next
      • 35. Other systems – waiting for VPC in Singapore
      Downtime? Haven’t had any so far!
      Performance? A least 3 times faster on HTTP requests
      Cost? Expecting a per annum reduction around 90%!
    • 36. Things to be mindful of...
      There are a lot of options
      • Just because it’s there doesn’t mean you should use it!
      It’s hard to keep up
      • New functionality is coming out all the time
      Network architecture
      • Need good internet pipe(s)
      Get used to the terminology!
