    Notes on slide 1

Goal: Provide background context – steer minds and hearts to close loop visibility as the key to solving customer pains in today’s economy and illustrate how they should think about RFID and its applicability Talking points: Open loop systems are complex, have lengthy sales cycles, lots of touch points need to fall in place, and much harder to show demonstrable ROI ( and btw compliance is dead) Point applications are nice but few and far in-between (in terms of customers) and not really a scalable biz opportunity both in terms of effort and $’s Close loop systems with targeted packaged solutions that use this (RFID) technology to connect enterprise applications to real-time is where the whole new green field set of applications are for us to go after and enable – this is an area where customers today do not have a system in place that connects up real-world events to the enterprise application and processes are paper based and error prone today [knowledge on the floor is tribal, and so are worka-arounds which is not good]; Most importantly there is a very clear ROI in terms of cost cutting (labor) and reduction in errors that packaged offering on the MS platform can deliver for the customer today – and this is a very scalable business [1..many]

    1. RFID Applications Today: A Taxonomy
      • Drivers
      • Cross company standardization
      • Compliance
      • Ubiquitous adoption
      • Cost per tag
      • Drivers
      • Point solution with needs of vertical markets
      • Drivers
      • Seamless extension of existing enterprise applications
      • Implementation of client-specific business process
      • Return on investment
Solutions with measurable ROI & value that we’re going to talk about today.
    2. Connected Enterprise: Current State Enterprise Software Applications Physical World they Manage Enterprise applications are only loosely connected to the physical world they manage.

    3. Anecdotal data on costs of this loose connection
      • 42.4 million airline bags lost in 2007 at a cost of $3.8 billion (SITA)
      • Time spent doing physical inventory to reconcile with the enterprise applications
      • 13% of all orders either ship with the wrong item or quantity or delivered late to the customer (AMR)
      • ‘ Stuck’ critical orders with unhandled exceptions during discrete manufacturing
      • Number of IT/Medical assets that ‘disappear’
Electronic Systems are out of sync with activities happening in the physical-world. Gap between ‘Actual’ vs. ‘Expected’ results in higher operational costs and capital expenditure
