Question 1

  1. 1. Question 1 In what ways does your mediaproduct use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? By Alix Kelly
  2. 2. Contents• Conventions• Front Cover• Analysis of Front Cover• Contents Page• Analysis of Contents• Double Page• Analysis of Double Page
  3. 3. Conventions My magazine uses the typical conventions of a masthead, image, cover lines and a model credit. Inside on the double page spread there is amasthead, kicker and images. These have all beenadapted from the likes of magazines such as Q and Vibe and Mixmag magazine.
  4. 4. Front coverFor my front cover, I have followed the likes of Q magazine and placedthe masthead in the top left corner. The name of the magazine ‘REMIX’is linking to the type of pop/ dance music genre is focuses on. This islike VIBE who focuses on pop/RnB. This is the optical area where theaudience is likely to look first. Then the image is centered in the middleof the page and their direct address to the camera is similar to themusic magazine such as Q and Vibe. The portrait image shows more ofthe artist like the cover featuring Eminem on Vibe. The photomanipulation has been changed so the lighting is higher key andcreating a shadow like the image of LMFAO on the band imageanalysis. The colour scheme of my magazine is purple, black, white andsilver. This creates an effective contrast like the colour scheme of Qwhere they have used black white and red.

  6. 6. Contents PageMy contents page uses the same house style as typical music magazinewhich helps it to look professional. I have used a larger image for themain artist that the double page spread is based on. This is similar to Qmagazine that uses a main image placed on the right of the page. Ihave also used other images of different artists. This challenges theconventions of the magazines I have looked at as they haven’t usedmore than two. I have also put in an editor’s note which is sometimesused in Q magazine, this helps draw the audience in because it makesit more personal and directs the magazine at the audience. I have alsoplaced the features on the left hand side of the page and used a similarhouse style to keep the magazine up to a high standard. This ismanipulated from the Q magazine. As it is a music magazine, the propsused in some of the images include a guitar and keyboard which is likethe smaller images of the Q magazine contents page.

  8. 8. Double Page SpreadIn my double page spread, the image is placed on the left page like thelady gaga article in Q magazine. This has been manipulated so that theimage is high key to stick with the genre of the magazine. This issimilar to the Nikki Minaj article in Nylon magazine. However mymasthead is placed over the two pages to try and make it stand out tothe audience. I have still used the same house style on the doublepage spread as I have on the contents page. The language I have usedfor the interview is happy and vibrant to link to the genre and theexcitement of the magazine. I have done my text in a conversationalcontext where the artist speech is written as it was said in themagazine. This is similar to the Nikki Minaj interview in the Nylonmagazine. I have used a pull quote and a smaller image in the columnto make it seem more interesting and eye catching.
