Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) for MIS degree: Upon successful completion of this degree, students should be able to No. The Intended Learning Outcomes 1 Use models in problem solving: deploy an appropriate modeling technique in solving business problems. (Such as: SWOT Analysis, PERT Analysis, Cash Flow Forecasting and Risk Analysis. Business strategy tools: Porter's Five Forces, , Value Chain Analysis, simulation, optimization, heuristics, decision tables…etc) 2 Apply methods and tools: deploy an appropriate system development methodology (Such as: Water Fall, Prototyping, Incremental, Spiral, RAD…etc) and select suitable tools to generate IT solutions to business problems (Such as: brainstorming, Pareto charts, run charts, pie charts, flowcharts and voting, control chart, project planning…etc). 3 Critically evaluate: evaluate the appropriateness of methods for computer-based systems development, review database approaches to data management and determine project cost effectiveness and viability. 4 Reflect and communicate: present in writing, rational and reasoned arguments that address a given information handling problem and examine the impact of new technologies. 5 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of essential facts (basic concepts of MIS and management), concepts principles and theories relating to the degree in MIS. (Business and IT issues, IT, MIS, competitive advantage, value of information, BI, types of systems…etc) 6 Recognize and appreciate the professional and ethical responsibilities of the practicing MIS professional including the need for quality. (security, privacy, professionalism…etc) 7 Manage information systems and projects including all phases and documentation. 8 Analyze, design, implement, and evaluate systems including system development life cycle, and strategies and techniques of systems planning documentation. 9 Apply effective problem solving and decision making techniques in a business context, using appropriate quantitative and qualitative techniques. (Such as: transportation, simulation, optimization, decision tree, games theory, Markov series, time series analysis, mathematical programming…etc) 10 Know and explain the principles of networking such as OSI model, TCP/IP model, LANs, and WANs. 11 Know and explain the principles of network security such as information systems security management, risk analysis and management, physical and logical security, etc. 12 Know and explain the concepts of database systems such as schema architecture, the entity relationship model, and normalization. 13 Explain the principles and processes of e-commerce. 14 Understand and explain the basic principles of management. 15 Understand and explain the basic principles of accounting. 16 Understand and explain the basic principles of marketing. 17 Understand and explain the basic principles of human resource management. 18 Understand and explain the basic principles of Finance and Business Law. 19 Understand and explain the fundamental of micro and macro economics. 20 Explain legal, ethical and social issues related to Information Technology. 3
