Using For The First Time The first time you run the Financial Planning Spreadsheets © Menu the options window will open allowing you to set the State for the State Tax Rates to be used in the templates. Select the State of your choice and then click the “Save” button on the top left . To begin click on the Gold Money clip on your desktop. The “Options” screen will appear. Pg 2 of 21 Getting Started The screen may be accessed at any time from the Financial Planning Spreadsheets © Menu “Options” screen.
  3. 3. Using For The First Time - Continued You may change these options at any time. After you have made your selections click the “Save” button on the top left. Pg 3 of 21 Getting Started Next: The next tab is your Startup Options.

  5. 5. Using For The First Time - Continued We have set up an option, available from the Financial Planning Spreadsheets © Menu “Options” to make this process simple. If you place a check mark in this option and click the “Save” button. A folder called “Clients” will be created in your “My Documents” folder. This will then become Excels default folder to save files to. This step is optional as you can save your files anywhere you wish. Using For The First Time - Continued Pg 6 of 21 Getting Started Next: Imprint information that appears in all reports For site license users this tab will contain a list of all users that are registered under the site license. Click on any registered user name in the list to display the full imprint to the right of the list. Every time you open a template the last saved name will appear on the imprint area of the reports. You may change this at anytime. In addition if you have put in an imprint change request from our website you can update your software by clicking the button on the lower right of the tab.

On the “Fonts & Colors” tab you can change the main spreadsheet list and client list font size or colors . Once you have selected the options you would like click “Save” button on the toolbar. Note: You must close and reopen the software for the changes to take effect.
  8. 8. Client Data Screen You will be prompted to start a new financial plan by the screen shown below. Clicking “Yes” to this option will open the Client Data screen. Clicking “No” will open the main screen where you can select any individual template. If you are doing a number of reports for a client you may want to enter their basic information here. The active data here is linked into all the worksheets. You may also access this screen from the Financial Planning Spreadsheets © main screen at any time. Next: Pg 8 of 21 All reports will have the active clients info. until you use this screen again and select a different client.
  9. 9. Client Data Screen - Continued Using the blue tree view on the left you can view the existing clients plan information. To view or edit the client’s personal information like their name or DOB click on the Client Name in the tree view. To view or edited a client’s plan click on the Plan Title underneath the category Financial Plans for a client. You may also view memos/notes for a client by clicking on the Memo History category for a client.  This will list all of the memos for a client.  Again to view or edited a clients memo click on the Memo Date title underneath the category Financial Plans for a client.   10. 10. Client Data Screen - Continued You can change any of the blue or plum colored text.  Grayed out cells are calculated automatically for you. When you are done editing the client’s personal info, plan or memo, click save  on the toolbar.  This must be done separately for each category. Pg 10 of 21 Next: Editing existing client info. & Adding a new Client into the program Note: The last save entry will become the active data in the reports. To add a client click on the toolbar item “Add New Client”. You must enter at least the client’s first and last name.  When you are done entering the client’s info. click “Save” button on the toolbar. The software will then default to the plan data entry screen.  Enter the client’s financial details and click “Save” again when you are done.

Client Data Screen - Continued You may enter many different financial plan scenarios for a client. To do this first select the clients name from the tree view on the left and then click the toolbar item “Add A New Client Plan”. You must enter at least the Plan Title, the rest of the cells are optional. Click the “Save” button again when you are done.   If you decide you do not want to save the changes you have made simply click the “Undo Addition” button on the toolbar. Client Data Screen - Continued You may enter many Memos for a client. To get started with this first select the clients name from the tree view on the left and then click the toolbar item “Add A New Memo”. Enter the Memo info. then click the “Save” button when you are done.   If you decide you do not want to save the changes you have made simply click the “Undo Addition” button on the toolbar. Pg 4 of 12 Next: Adding a new Memo for a client Note: The last save entry will become the active data in the reports.
  13. 13. Client Data Screen - Continued To clear the current screen data click the “Clear Data” button on the toolbar. Click the “Save” button when you are satisfied with your new entries. Pg 12 of 21 Next: Clearing Client Data & Deleting Client Information NOTE: Deleting a client record will also delete all plan and memo data for the selected client! This will not delete any of your saved reports. You may delete individual plans or memos listed under a client. Simply select the “Plan Title” or “Memo Date” and then click the “Delete” button on the toolbar. You may also delete clients from the tree view on the left by selecting the client’s name and then clicking the “Delete” button on the toolbar.

Getting Started After saving your client data the Financial Planning Spreadsheets © main screen will appear as shown below: Next: From this list Double click on one of the report title like “Funding Requirements for Retirement – Joint” to open the report. If you are doing a complete financial plan you may want to start with the “Net Worth Statement” template. Double Clicking on any of the report titles will open a copy of the template in Excel.   15. 15. This data comes from the data file or you can enter it directly here. This retirement plan works because there is sufficient capital to last until youngest is 99. Pg 15 of 21 This is one of our most popular templates . By simply filling in the assumptions you can quickly produce a very detailed retirement plan and a report your client can quickly understand. Enter your clients information into all of the blue or plum colored cells. Changing an assumption will tell you instantly if the retirement plan will work.   16. 16. Retirement age of 58 (2 years earlier) Produces a shortage of capital at age 83. Some of the variables have to change, i.e. savings, rate of return or ? Pg 16 of 21 To the right of the printed reports is an area to enter special situations such as lump sum deposits or withdrawals at a future date.
  17. 17. Pg 17 of 21 Every report contains notes and additional compliance information and your personalized imprint. Lines are provided for you to enter you own notes. A breakdown of all the calculations are shown to the right to the printed are for your audit or further details.
  18. 18. All Charts may be customized to your preferences. Chart colors are chosen specifically to print in color and/or black and white. To view the chart select “Joint Chart” at the bottom tab on your screen. When the report page is the way you want it go to the chart page and print it as well. Pg 18 of 21 Changes to the reports assumptions will automatically update the report and its chart.
  19. 19. Saving Your Client Reports When you are ready to save your report in Excel click on “File”, then “Save As…” In the “Save As” dialog box give the file a meaningful name and click “Save”. For Excel 2007 you must save the file as a Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook Workbook (*.xlsm) file. Pg 19 of 21 We recommend using the surname first when saving reports. That way all of the files will show up in alphabetical order when you go to reopen them.
  20. 20. Opening Your Saved Client Reports Locate the saved client file you wish to open and “Double click” on it to have it open in Excel. If your macro security setting is set to medium you will be asked to Enable Macros. You must click ” Enable Macros” for the reports to function correctly. If it is set to high you should change this to low or medium. To do this open Excel Click on “Tools” Click on “Macro”, next click “Security…”. On the “Security” tab click on the Medium or Low Option. Then click “OK”. Next Excel will ask you if you want to update the “Automatic Links”. Note: If this is a previous report for the client you need to retrieve it with this clients data so you must click “No”. Pg 20 of 21 All of our files are scanned for viruses before shipping.
