Autobiography: <ul><li>He was born on February 7 in 1812 in Landspot-a small town nears the sea. </li></ul><ul><li>When Dickens was 9,his family moved to London. </li></ul><ul><li>When he was 12,his father was arrested and taken to debtors’ prizon. </li></ul><ul><li>Dickens’mother moved his 7 brothers and sisters into priison with their father,but she and arranged for the young Charels to live alone outside the prison and work with other children pasting lebels on bottles. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Dickens found the 3 months he spent apart from his family higly traumatic.Not only was the job itself misirable,but he considered himself too good for it,earning the contempt of the children.After his father was released frm prison,Dickens returned to school.he eventually became a law clerk,then a court reporter,and finally a novelist. </li></ul>

  5. 5. “ The Pickwick paper” <ul><li>His first novel”The Pickwick paper”,became a huge popular success when Dickens was only 25.From then on Dickens was one of the best known and loved writers of his days. </li></ul>
  6. 6. “ American notes” <ul><li>In 1842 Dickens made his first trip to America.He said that he wanted to see for himself what ‘real’ democracy was like.He wrote about his trip and his impressions in his American notes. </li></ul>
  7. 7. “ The mistery of Edwin Drood” <ul><li>Dickens traveled a lon and in 1858 he bagan to tour England,reading passages frm his work to public.These readings were a great success,for Dickens was a wonderful actor,but he hard work and travelin was bad for his health.death come when he was writing his novel “The mistery of Edwin Drood”.which was left unfinished. </li></ul>
  8. 8. “ Oliver Twist” <ul><li>He created a wide gallery of pictures of the bourgeois society and its representative types which still exist in England.He wrote about the workhouses of England and the tragedy of the children,who lived there. </li></ul>
  9. 9. “ Martin Chuzzlewit” <ul><li>The main theme of the novel, according to a Preface by Dickens, is selfishness, portrayed in a satirical fashion using all the members of the Chuzzlewit family. The novel is also notable for two of Dickens' great villains, Seth Pecksniff and Jonas Chuzzlewit. It is dedicated to Angela Georgina Burdett-Coutts, a friend of Dickens. </li></ul>
  10. 10. “ Dombey and Son” <ul><li>The story concerns Paul Dombey, the wealthy owner of the shipping company of the book's title, whose dream is to have a son to continue his business. The book begins when his son is born, and Dombey's wife dies shortly after giving birth. </li></ul><ul><li>The child, also named Paul, is weak and often ill, and does not socialize normally with others; adults call him &quot;old fashioned&quot;. He is intensely fond of his elder sister, Florence, whom Mr. Dombey neglects as irrelevant and a distraction. He is sent away first for his health, and then to a school near the sea, but he dies, still only six years old. </li></ul>
  11. 11. “ David Copperfield” <ul><li>David Copperfield is one of the most lyrical work of the great novelsit,was to some extent autobiografical;it feflected a young man’s life in bourgeois society.Dickens critisized the negative sides of that society,children’s labour,the system of education.Such problems as mirriage and love in the bourgeois world were also taken up in this novel. </li></ul>
