    Notes on slide 1

Lori et al have talked to you today about things at a high level…. Library services for and in second life. I’m goingh to narrow way down and talk about what I’ve learned from running a library in one community within second life -- but a strongly marked and cohesive library. In Second Life, I’m JJ Drinkwater, imaginary 19th century librarian. I run a library system in a community with an “Alternate history” theme. Caledon is partly the 19th century of Thackeray and Dickens, but it’s equally the 19th century of Jules Verne and Sir Walter Scott…and even Lewis Carrol. So, the Caledon library is a resource for exploring the 19th century imagination….and what the modern imagination -- that of the residents of Caledon -- makes of the 19th century.
