When we started our research about Slovene inventors, we quickly realised that we do not know a lot about them. With the help of the internet our pupils discovered inventors, who are not well-known in Slovenia, but have contributed a lot to a development of contemporary life. One of them is also ANDREJ DETELA, a writer, a poet, a philosopher, an ecologist and an internationally well- known inventor at Institute JožefŠtefan. He is famous for his most advanced electromotor for robots and electric vehicles of new generation. He finds inspiration in nature.
Inventor Andrej Detela
Pupils (4th grade) learned about electricity and ways of exploring energy in Science and Technology, therefore it was easy to include Mr. Andrej Detela in the curriculum. When discovering his area of activity, we came across an interesting link to electric energy. We saw a short film describing Mr. Detala’smost modern electromotor in the world. (See video below the presentation)
This inspired us to make an electric vehicle. Round, transparent and plastic lids found in waste were used for wheel of our vehicles.
Packaging waste for our cars
Pupils made car bodies from different waste materials and we fixed wheels on cars at school.
We fixed wheels on our cars.
This presented the function of electric driven cars, which pump solar energy and accumulate it in wheels.
Some pupils made oral presentation about Andrej Detela and everybody tested their vehicles by driving them in the classroom.
We exhibited our electric vehicles in the school hall.
We learned a lot about a great Slovene inventor, who takes part in the development of electric vehicles of new generation with his ideas and inventions.
