2. Slavery was an ugly part of American history. Slavery has existed since 8000BC in Lower Egypt. Slavery was known in civilizations as AncientEgypt, Ancient China, AncientGreece, Ancient India, AncientEgypt and RomanEmpire.
3. Slavery in Europe Approximately 10–20% of the rural population of Carolingian Europe consisted of slaves. In Western Europe slavery largely disappeared by the later Middle Ages. The trade of slaves in England was abolished in 1102, but slavery persisted in Eastern Europe: in Lithuania was abolished in 1588, in Poland in 15th century. In Russia was a major institution until 1723. Between the 16th and 19th century , aproximatly 1 million – 1.25 million European were captured by Barbary Pirates and sold as slaves in North Africa.

Between 1800 and 1860 the British Parliamentdecreedtheend of slaverythoughoutthe British Empire. In the USA , in 1 January 1808, theimportation of slaveswasabolished, butnottheinternalslave trade. Finally in 1863 Lincoln issuedtheEmancipationProclamation , theslaverythroughthe country finallywasabolished.
