Symbionomics Symbionomics Presentation Transcript

  • a primer
  • The real world is VERY complex, with COUNTLESS types of flows and relationships.
  • We use currency symbols to represent and reflect flows that are happening in real life. mirror
  • Because the world is so complex, we can only make SOME flows visible. mirror
  • The flows we make visible have a POWERFUL effect on our actions... mirror
  • ...which in turn are reflected back by our currency symbols. mirror
  • This continual feedback loop shapes our behavior in profound ways. mirror
  • If we measure different flows... mirror
  • ...we start behaving differently. mirror
  • Clearly, choosing what and how flows are mirrored is VERY powerful. mirror
  • At its core, the process of creating currency symbols is actually a form of writing. a b c d e f g.... mirror
  • And in a similar way, currencies reflect our culture back to us. a b c d e f g.... mirror
  • You might recall these guys...
  • Didn’t they say something about “free speech?”
  • One reason free speech is important is that it allows a culture to develop organically... a b c d e f g.... mirror
  • ...without the interference of a centralized power structure. a b c d e f g.... power structure mirror
  • It’s easy to recognize such interference when the government is responsible... a b c d e f g.... government mirror
  • ...but harder when the interference is built into the medium itself. a b c d e f g.... medium mirror
  • For a long time, it was very expensive to print and distribute writing. a b c d e f g.... print industry mirror
  • Today it is very cheap. a b c d e f g.... blogs, social media, etc. mirror
  • Practically speaking, our speech is more free, because more people have access to distribution. a b c d e f g.... blogs, social media, etc. mirror
  • Now, back to currency... mirror
  • Banks control the primary monetary currency in our culture... banks mirror
  • ...and there are many other kinds of currency... USDA mirror
  • ...all of which reflect different flows that occurred. DMV mirror
  • BUT, most currencies depend on middlemen between the flows and the reflection. MIDDLEMEN mirror
  • Clearly, choosing what gets mirrored is VERY powerful. mirror
  • We use symbols to mark flows thereby making them visible. mirror
