Making Progress

As Christians we can ask ourselves: What kind of progress are we making? The same could be asked of the church where we attend. Paul was concerned about the "progress of the gospel" - Philippians 1. Do we exhibit the same kind of concern today?

  2. 2. vs. 5 - furtherance of the gospel vs. 12 - progress of the gospel
  3. 3. vs. 6 - being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:
  4. 4. vs. 9 - that your love may abound vs. 10 - that ye may approve the things that are excellent vs. 10 - that ye may be sincere and void of offence <ul><li>being filled with the fruits of righteousness, </li></ul><ul><li>which are through Jesus Christ, </li></ul><ul><li>unto the glory and praise of God </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>and that most of the brethren </li></ul><ul><li>in the Lord, being confident through </li></ul><ul><li>my bonds, are more abundantly bold </li></ul><ul><li>to speak the word of God without fear. </li></ul>
  6. 6. vs. 14 -speak the word of God without fear. vs. 15 – preach Christ vs. 17 - proclaim Christ vs. 18 - Christ is proclaimed
  7. 7. vs. 20 - Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death
  8. 8. Are we making progress? <ul><li>Too many churches of Christ are at an evangelistic standstill. </li></ul>
  9. 9. How can we gain some Momentum
  10. 10. We have a need for more Direction Focus
  11. 11. Do we need to make a plan?
  12. 12. We need to make: A Commitment
  13. 13. Acts 6 <ul><li>1. Now in these days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. </li></ul><ul><li>2. And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fit that we should forsake the word of God, and serve tables. </li></ul><ul><li>3. Look ye out therefore, brethren, from among you seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. </li></ul><ul><li>4. But we will continue stedfastly in prayer, and in the ministry of the word. </li></ul><ul><li>5. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus a proselyte of Antioch; </li></ul><ul><li>6. whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands upon them. </li></ul><ul><li>7. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. </li></ul>

A Plan that glorifies God <ul><li>1 Peter 4:11 if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; is any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. </li></ul>

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you. </li></ul><ul><li>8. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and so shall ye be my disciples. </li></ul>
  20. 20. Sacrifices will have to be made If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's shall save it.
