By 2017, the average smartphone will generate a huge 2.7 GB of traffic per month, an 8-fold increase from 2012. Networks need to be prepared to deliver one gigabyte of personalized data per user per day by 2020.
What subscribers are using their smartphones for is also changing. In addition to the ever-popular, data-hungry Google Maps app, more and more people are video streaming, video chatting, web browsing and gaming. By 2017, it is predicted that two-thirds of the world’s mobile data traffic will be video. There is an expectation that increased file sharing and machine type communications create a new data storm.

When it comes to that perennial favorite, YouTube, trials have shown the solution can increase video data throughput for a user by 1.93 times when prioritized in medium-loaded systems and 2.7 times in highly-loaded systems.
