home of Air-Assisted Safe Patient Transfer and Positioning
-The
AirPal®-PTS has innovative product solutions for safe patient transfer and positioning.
Our products are proven best practice solutions. When AirPal®-PTS products and
services are deployed, Healthcare Providers realize a reduction in injury to staff and
patients alike. In all types of care situations, the benefits are many. AirPal®-PTS
products and services have proven to increase the morale and productivity of
caregivers, increase employee retention and recruitment rates, increase patient
comfort and safety, and just as important - reduce organizational costs to healthcare
providers.
-Taking Care of the Caregiver
The healthcare industry recognizes the high risk of injury involved in manually
lifting, positioning and transferring physically dependent patients. One of the
highest risk tasks is transferring a patient between a bed and stretcher. The
AirPal® Platform reduces risk of injury to the caregiver by reducing the
amount of exertion (up to 90%!) required for lateral patient transfer and
positioning. The AirPal® RAMP® (Rapid Airway Management Positioner) solves
Safe Patient Positioning issues encountered for intubation. Improper patient
positioning is the most frequent cause of failed intubation in the difficult airway.
The AirPal® RAMP® automates the need to manually lift and support a patient
in proper position for airway management.

AirPal® Platforms are certified to UL/CSA Electro-Medical Standards. The difference between AirPal® and Hovertech is that
AirPal’s® products are certified to the newer 60601-1 UL/CSA Standard which replaces the 125/544 Standard set to expire at the
end of this year. By default Electro-Medical Standards apply to the Air Supply only although testing includes use with the
Platform. We take certifications seriously – our business depends on it and our products couldn’t be sold if they were not
certified. Of course, our products have been through clinical trials as well. We use an 1100W air supply on all of our systems
because it is a “best practice.” In-fact, AirPal® originally wrote the specification for the air supply that Hovertech now chooses to
use. However, Hovertech opted to continue to offer the lower rated air supply after it had been discontinued, whereas AirPal® has
not. Offering a lower rated air supply would not be a best practice – now would it?

PAT I E N T S A F E T Y
Our “Best Practice Philosophy” dictates that patient safety comes first – our patented design ensures that a
slightly off centered patient does not become unstable during inflation/deflation. Our Standard Series AirPal®
Platform is equipped with a double layer which helps to protect skin during long procedures when the AirPal®
Platform is left under the patient. All AirPal® products are radiolucent, any differences in amount between the
AirPal® and Hovertech products are negligible and imperceptible. Hovertech fails to mention that their cradling
effect only works if the patient is perfectly centered on their mattress – AirPal’s® stabilization bands which solve
this issue do not fold in upon themselves (they lay flat at all times whether inflated or not). “Longitudinal
Partitions,” more commonly referred to as stringers, are the basis of the HoverMatt’s® cradling effect.

COLOR CODED HANDLES
Never to be outdone, AirPal® Platforms were actually the first to incorporate color coded ergonomic handles for
staff identification. Additionally, our handles are made from a special mil-spec nylon webbing material with an
extremely tight weave for ease of cleaning and extra thickness for durability and pull strength. Our handles are
integral to the stabilization bands that run the entire width of the Platform, as well as being “looped” through
and double stitched to the entire sidewall. AirPal® invented air-assisted patient positioning and transfer, so after
all, we couldn’t let this small detail pass us by without improving upon it, our “Best Practice Philosophy” at work.
Hovertech handles are non-ergonomic, designed as simple straps of nylon fabric and attached to their mattress
without any further reinforcement to flaps of fabric extending out from the seams. – Maybe Hovertech feels
taking credit for color coding will divert attention from their inferior handle design?

EXTENDED HANDLES
Extended handles are an absolute “Best Practice.” Without handle extensions the caregiver on the far-end is
required to bend their back in order to grasp the handles. This translates into dramatically increased pressures
on the spinal column during transfers and this is what you are trying to avoid in the first place. Additionally, the
caregiver on the near end will be required to bend their back as the patient is transferred away from them if they
are not provided ergonomic handles like those found on the AirPal ® Platform. Handle extensions, some basic
instruction and the caregiver’s natural tendency to avoid the potential for a patient fall, ensure both patient and
caregiver remain “safe.” Anyways, common safety protocols require that the stretcher’s side-rail be raised prior
to transfer… Have you ever tried to reach for a short handle while bending over the raised side-rail of a
stretcher? Imagine trying to do that on a wider Bariatric Surface.

INFECTION CONTROL
S E W N V S . H E AT S E A L E D
If heat sealing offered a distinct advantage over a sewn platform, that is how we would manufacture all AirPal®
Platforms. (HoverTech can’t make-up its mind. Why?) We designed the Standard AirPal® Platforms with a second top
layer that is perimeter stitched and covers stitch lines with a smooth surface that is easily wiped down. In simple
speak heat sealing does not offer much of an additional benefit for infection control. Whether sewn or heat sealed
the same standards for infection control prevail. Besides, the heat sealed HoverMatt® is not “needle hole” free as
HoverTech states… The HoverMatt® has its label stitched on and the Velcro® used at the hose attachment points is
also stitched on. The HoverMatt’s® handles are stitched nylon twill fabric that are then sewn onto the HoverMatt®.
HoverMatt® has eliminated the needle holes? Hardly!!! Not mentioned by HoverTech is the fact that when a
HoverMatt’s® heat sealed seam fails they are known to repair the heat sealed HoverMatt ® by stitching the repair!

PROTECTIVE SHEETS
AirPal® offers a disposable and includes a reusable patented extended sani-liner with every Standard AirPal® Platform sold. AirPal’s®
patented sani-liner protects the entire patient surface as well as the sidewalls. Protective sani-liners are useful when soiling is
anticipated (You can avoid laundering of the AirPal® Platform so that it can be immediately available after a wipe-down) Whether
the product is heat sealed or sewn makes no difference to the use of a sani-liner – standard infection control protocols are always
required. AirPal’s® sani-liner is attached with a snap system that will not interfere with the patient’s footprint. Please note that heat
sealed Hovermatts® are prone to failure along the seams and where the non-ergonomic handles are attached. Repairs may use a
sealant that can created ridges and pockets that trap contaminants. Additionally, most repairs include a patch that is sewn in place
thus negating whatever perceived benefit heat sealing offers over sewn for infection control. The HoverMatt® has its label sewn on
and sews on the Velcro® found on the HoverMatt®. Hovertech has not eliminated needle holes yet care-freely dismisses the use of
protective sheets!

AirPal® Platform Comparison to HoverMatt ®
S I D E WA L L P R O T E C T I O N
AirPal’s® exclusive oversized sani-liner is designed to protect all of the exposed areas of the AirPal® Platform to
offer additional protection from fluids and soiling. The sani-liner connects to the AirPal® Platform with non-
ferrous snaps located in positions that will not interfere with the patient. Competitive products do not offer this
feature and instead their liners only protect the top surface leaving the sidewalls vulnerable to contamination.
Additionally, the Hovertech liners are attached to the Hovermatt® through Velcro® – a well known infection
vector and skin care concern. Hovertech only offers their zippered cover for the HoverMaxx®. Why? We can only
guess, but zippered covers are cumbersome and the zipper tracks themselves pose concerns for infection
control. If you didn’t have concerns about skin protection with the standard HoverMaxx® for Bariatric Patients
you probably wouldn’t want to use the zippered cover to begin with.

RADIOLUCENT
All AirPal® products are radiolucent – hey, for that matter so is a steel girder!!! The real question is whether they
interfere with X-Ray procedures. In fact AirPal® Platforms facilitate X-Ray procedures… While the patient is on the
X-Ray Table the Technician can inflate the AirPal® Platform and easily position the exposure plate by sliding it
under the AirPal®. The patient does not need to be rolled or tugged into proper position. The AirPal® is deflated
and the exposure taken. X-Ray Technicians are trained to adjust exposure to account for clothing, linens, etc.
Conversely Radiologists are trained to interpret the images and distinguish artifacts as routine. If there are
differences between the AirPal® Platform and Hovermatt® they are negligible and imperceptible.

ELASTIC BANDS?
We’re not really sure if this even belongs in a product comparison, but OK… If we get a request to supply Elastic
Bands we’ll send out some of those large “Rubber Bands” as well. They also serve a double purpose to hold trash
can liners in place.

AirPal® Platform Comparison to HoverMatt ®
SKIN CARE CONCERNS
AirPal® Platforms are available with specially designed medical fabrics forming the patient surface. The number of
layers of material have no correlation to skin care issues, as a single layer is more likely to fold in against itself and
offers less of a cushioning effect. AirPal® Platforms are manufactured in such a way that the layers offer an
enhanced cushioning effect and slide against one another to reduce skin care concerns. In addition, the use of
AirPal’s® Patented Extended sani-liner can add extra protection to the same effect. AirPal® Platforms are easy to Log
Roll a patient onto, as easy as the Hovermatt® which incidentally is made from a generic nylon twill fabric treated
with a urethane coating. AirPal® has carefully selected specially engineered medical fabrics for their specific
properties. These fabrics made by Herculite®, Inc. (Lectrolite®, Sure-Check Fusion III®, Linea 70®) are strong, durable,
antimicrobial, antistatic, flame resistant, stain, odor, and fluid resistant. Herculite’s® fabrics were specifically
designed for use in clinical environments. Once again, this is our “Best Practice Philosophy” at work for you.

The AirPal® Stand like the products it supports was built with quality and durability in mind. Crafted from stainless
steel with hospital grade components like premium fendered casters, it can support up to two air-supplies. The
AirPal® Platform was designed to accommodate two air supplies to supplement Bariatric transfers. The air supplies are
securely held in place with metal retention rings. The HoverCart ® is made from bent powder coated tubing mounted
to two plastic “milk crates” stacked above one another. The HoverCart ® air supply simply rides inside one of the milk
crates, the HoverCart’s casters are inferior to AirPal’s®. Of course, the AirPal® stand was designed after an IV footprint
as this is one of the more common items found in a Hospital setting, lending itself to instant familiarity and ease of
use for the caregiver. Please see the “In-Depth” Product Comparison later in this presentation for more information.

“Past Paradigm” • Some practices will become billable procedures – i.e. AirPal
claims and insurance costs
• Worker Pool Shrinking RAMP for intubation
• Injuries often cited as pre-existing conditions
• Patient Handling Equipment Purchases viewed as cost • More productive workers
• Healthcare Industry – Small Percentage of GDP
containment issue – balance sheet liability – NO ROI • Higher retention and recruitment rates for workers
• Safe Patient Handling is largely viewed as legislative issue – • Healthcare Industry projected to be up to one half GDP by
lots of variation between State’s approaches 2050
• Healthcare Industry is 1/5th of GDP
