  • Oracle is the second largest software company in the world, specializing in sophisticated departmental and enterprise software. In the last twelve month period, we’ve done just under $5 Billion in revenue. Oracle is a rapidly growing company; we had a number of years, when we were smaller, when we grew at 100% per year, so at 39% revenue growth in the last year, we feel as though we’re not growing quite so fast any more. We have very attractive margins and a very strong balance sheet. We have a very high market cap as is typical for high-growth, high-tech stocks that are leaders in their industry. As I said, we are the second largest software company, Microsoft is the largest. They are historically in the desktop market, we are in the server and back-end side of the IT market. We are the number one Database company in the world, the number one Tools company, we have the second largest Applications business, that business we started kind of late in the game, in the late 1980’s and we have quickly moved already to the second largest in the world and we are number one in OLAP, which is the set of products I’m going to talk about. OLAP stands for On-Line Analytical Processing. Specifically, I’ll talk about one of our applications, Oracle Financial Analyzer, which uses this OLAP technology.

  • Of course, if you do have legacy or third party systems, we let you easily integrate them with Oracle Applications...and we do all of this in the presence of very high performance. When integrating with third party systems. Who is the most open system in applications today? Oracle. Why? Because we have open interfaces at all the key levels: At the application level, we have open application programming interfaces. At the tools level, we publish our CASE information to our customers. At the database level, we have open database gateways. You can integrate our system with any application built on any tool set running on any database.

  • Our methods and standards are based on Oracle Method. Oracle Method is a process-based family of methods which defines and integrates a wide variety of technology services. The Oracle Method toolkit includes hypertext handbooks, deliverable templates, and project management templates to accelerate the development process. We have licensed project management software from Applied Business Technologies (ABT), a leading provider of project management software.
  • In the midst of a changing role in support of the business, the IT organization must also manage the changing technology picture. Enterprise mainframes and departmental servers are being downsized , as advances in open systems technology are bringing the power of mainframes onto smaller, cheaper technology platforms. This shift holds the promise of decreased capital costs and lower maintenance expenses, and the downsizing trend is real. But there are still many issues to be worked out as IT organizations undergo this transformation. On the user end, desktop and workgroup applications are being upsized as these computing platforms increase in computing power and capability. Users, long familiar with the convenience of desktop systems, are demanding the same ease of use across all of the enterprise applications. Standalone PC applications and custom-made spreadsheets are being integrated into the corporate suite of applications, and must be given access to corporate data. Finally, corporations are embracing internetworking as they begin to exploit the connectivity and accessibility of the Internet. These initiatives range from electronically linking a company with its suppliers, to letting customers browse electronic catalogs and place orders 24 hours a day, to using Worldwide Web technology for internal training and information access.

  • Key Message : The Oracle Program Office is a model for organizing and planning a set of projects in order to successfully implement an enterprise-wide, complex, or multi-site solution. This model addresses specific concerns associated with deploying a large, multi-site, multi-project, or enterprise wide solution. It decreases costs by consolidating common tasks and avoiding rework It decreases risk by establishing clear policies and procedures across all implementation sites within an organization
  • We have a unique capability to build on previous experience based on what we call “Dominant Designs.” Dominant Designs are process flows, industry practices, reusable code, or architecture designs which have been proven on hundreds of previous engagements. We take the best solutions and place them into our Corporate Repository, where they are available to thousands of Oracle consultants worldwide. Dominant Designs provide a basis for solution development, and these designs are tailored to suit the needs of each individual customer and to include modifications and ideas from the project team. No two solutions are exactly alike, but by building off of Dominant Designs, Oracle consultants are able to deliver proven results faster and with lower risk.
