Cancellation and transfer policy • Once a registration has been received and either an invoice issued or a letter of acceptance sent to the person registered or their organisation the seminar position is deemed accepted and the full fee for the seminar is payable. • Should you be unable to attend, a substitute participant is welcome at no extra charge. Prior notice must be given in writing (email is acceptable). • If you cancel more than 14 days prior to the seminar, you will receive a refund of less $50.00 to cover administrative costs. If you cancel 7 days prior to the workshop you will receive a 50% refund. Regrettably, no refunds can be made for cancellation received less than 7 days prior to the event. • All cancellation notification must be received in writing (email is acceptable). • Redleaf reserves the right to amend the seminar program without notice. Conducting an effective therapeutic music group containing diverse cultures and diverse cognitive levels One of the most common challenges for any lifestyle and leisure staff is running an effective music activity group which includes a diverse range of cultures, different levels and types of dementia, various types of behaviour and a big group of client many with sensory challenges. This seminar will provide those with limited music ability the introductory knowledge and skills in order to conduct an effective music group of people of varied cultures and cognitive abilities Speaker: Dr Loretta Quinn, PhD, Registered Music Therapist, RNDiv1, PostGradDipMT, AMusA (Piano), MMusMT Volunteer recruitment & management. Volunteers are a valuable asset and recruiting and training volunteers is a rewarding experience that provides energy and enthusiasm to any program. Retaining volunteers is specialized work that can be simplified in a number of ways that provides opportunities for engagingh your clients. This session will explore volunteer’s rights, methods of induction and the all important job description. The responsibilities of managing this valuable resource will be discussed. Group work will include sharing methods of recruitment, reward and recognition. Speaker: Lauretta Kaldor, Diversional Therapist, Owner / Lauretta Kaldor Resources Managing risk in leisure service provision This session will focus on how we can effectively manage risks within leisure programs without impinging on the rights of our clients. Many leisure and lifestyle staff have removed activities from their programs because some activities are seen as being too risky. Often this is a case of poor risk management planning rather than the activity its self being inherently risky. Case studies will be used to illustrate better practice approaches to risk management in leisure service program provision. A thought provoking and challenging session. Speaker: Pamela Bruder, Life Enrichment Project Coordinator, Emmy Monash Aged Care Culturally inclusive service provision The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing has been a leading provider of training and consultancy services to the aged care sector for the past 15 years. This presentation will highlight culturally inclusive service provision – implications for lifestyle support staff, an overview of resources and contacts/services that can enhance provision of services to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and an introduction to service specific action planning. Speaker: Tonina Gucciardo-Masci, Senior Project Officer, Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing Creative activities: developing a portfolio of ideas Creative activities provide many benefits for a range of clients and the provide opportunities for high levels of engagement. In this double session we will explore poetry, reminiscence and theme based activities and how to effectively implement these with your specific client groups. Ideas will be shared through interactive group work sessions.
