  • 1. Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden is a 500-acre (2.0 km2)botanical garden and tourist attraction at kilometer 163 on SukhumvitRoad in Chonburi Province, Thailand. Pisit and Nongnooch Tansachapurchased the 600-acre (2.4 km2) plot of land in 1954 with theintentions of developing the land as a fruit plantation. However, theowners instead decided to plant tropical flowers and plants as a wildlifeconservation project.The garden focus on Southeast Asian, Tropical American and CentralAfrica species of Cycads*, but a collection of almost every species canalso been seen here.The garden opened to the public in 1980, and management wastransferred to Pisit and Nongnoochs son Kampon Tansacha in 2001.Garden divisions: French Garden, European Garden, StonehengeGarden, Cactus & Suculent Garden, Variegated Plants, AntTower, Butterfly Hill, Orchid & Bromeliad Display Garden, and FlowerValley.*Cycads are seed plants typically characterized by a stout and woody (ligneous)trunk with a crown of large, hard and stiff, evergreen leaves.
